The Vikings like Toby Gerhart (misc) - fullmetal - 05-12-2010

Vikings running backs coach long has coveted Toby Gerhart  (google web cache)

Boise State\'s Ian Johnson (last year\'s third-stringer behind AP and Chester Taylor) was optimistic before the draft: http://www.twincities.com/ci_14900879

Something tells me Johnson will be third-stringing it again...

This is my favorite part of the article:
In a Sun Bowl victory over the Oklahoma Sooners, he ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns against the nation\'s eighth-ranked rushing defense.

Let me take this one, Yvonne. The problem with saying the name \'Yahweh" ....a-a-a--a-r-r-r-gh.

I thought you meant to explain the Tequila Joe quote.

Re: The Vikings like Toby Gerhart (misc) - fullmetal - 05-13-2010

I always thought it had to do with taking His name in vain.

CI?  You okay over there?  *glances up*

Fullmetal,

That is correct.  It is a matter of respect.

Technically, the issue has to do with only the four-letter name of G-d.  It\'s never pronounced; even when reading the Torah, another word is substituted.  In fact, one polite way to the deity is HaShem, literally, "the name."  There\'s no requirement to omit the vowel in English.  It\'s just a carry-over to show respect.

Some people take avoiding the Name even further, substituting other consonants while saying other Hebrew names of G-d except when used in prayer.

Thinking back, my use in the quote above was inappropriate.

I wonder if those Viking running back coaches got what they wanted out of Toby.  Or if they're even still around.

It looks like Toby missed his window to be the featured back in Minnesota this season: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10148037/minnesota-vikings-expect-adrian-peterson-toby-gerhart-return

I can't wait for him to get to a team that will give him more reps.
