New to your board, just wanted to see - utah1977 - 03-26-2011

what your thoughts are on this quote:

Quote:"If you were to take Stanford\'s academics with the type of kid that the military academies recruit," Mendenhall said, merge that with top-25 talent and add "the dust of Notre Dame," that is your typical BYU player. He adds that there are 15 players on the roster each season, on average, who aren\'t Mormon but all of them come for the same reason independence is supposed to work.

We are used to the idiotic remarks that BYU makes every year, but honestly they are starting to get a bit over the top.

The most famous Stanford/BYU athletic controversy was in 1969, when Stanford President Pitzer banned athletic competitions with BYU due to BYU\'s policy (at the time) of racial discrimination.

I would just as soon have kept that ban in place permanently until BYU fixed its other forms of discrimination.  But what looks like discrimination to me is religion to someone else--and the school is owned by a Church.

Which raises an interesting question.  How often have Stanford teams played BYU since 1969?

Are you sure it wasn\'t the infamous Mormon-mocking the Band went for?

I haven\'t seen it, but i\'ve heard there is a video somewhere out there of the band incident.  Anyone know where it is?

Gosh, with those kinds of rules I\'m surprised they get anyone at all.

I read in a "What college is right for you magazine" that the BYU acceptance rate was 50%. I don\'t remember the exact figure but it was at least 50% or higher.

Yeah, this isn\'t the first time Donko has made comments like this.

What does he even mean by "the type of kid that the military academies recruit?"  I\'m absolutely certain most Stanford admits were also recruited by the academies (I was; they go off of SAT score initially).

The dust of Notre Dame football is rank and reeks of overpowering entitlement.

Mendenhall must be speaking to the boosters.

According to US News & World Report\'s college issue, BYU\'s admission rate in 2009 was 69%. Stanford\'s admission rate was 8%.

USNWR ranks BYU 75th among national universities -- tied with the University of Delaware.

According to USNWR\'s academic reputation ratings, BYU has about the same academic reputation rating as the University of Nebraska, Washington State University, or the University of Tennessee.

As I said, he\'s delusional.

It was from a CBS sports article with Dennis Dodd. I couldn\'t post the URL in the initial thread.

Re: On Stanford admit rate - Erika - 03-27-2011

On Stanford Admissions, an update from the admissions website:

"Unfortunately, roughly 94% of those who have applied will not be offered admission this year. We recognize how stressful this process can be for our applicants but we take great solace in knowing that any student who is even a candidate for admission to a place like Stanford will have wonderful college options, whether it be Stanford or another great university."
