This feels pretty even to me, which is weird since we finish with 3 straight home games. I think the semi-bye before/after WSU on Thursday helps. I don't see any 3-week runs that appear brutal, though if SDSU remains good @USC, @SDSU, and UCLA could be a bad stretch.
The only giant "WTF" to me is Washington being a Friday. I get that they want marquee games to be unopposed, but come on, that could've been Game Day on the farm. Pac-12 needs to cut this crap out.

My initial thoughts...
While it'll be nice to have the tuneup against Rice, it's unfortunate to play U-S-C so early in season, probably with an untested quarterback. It's a shame that game can't be flipped with San Diego State. (I have to say I like the idea of taking the train down to watch that SDSU game, though. So there's that.)
If Oregon can rebuild a bit, that game's going to be a tough ticket with all the reunion folks in town.
Nice to have the quasi bye week later in the season, I think I'd prefer ditching the Thursday game in favor of a normal bye week. I don't recall Alabama ever playing on Thursday night.

Yes, that's totally stupid, especially considering how late that game is in the season. What if things come together and both teams are in the top ten or top five? They really want that game being played in the vacuum of Friday night?

One of my fondest memories from freshman year was the road trip with dorm mates to LA for the sc game. Yet again, the game is before school even starts. What a bummer for the kids, though I guess heading down I5 with a case of beer in a cooler in the backseat are days long gone.

This will make the 5th time in 6 years that Stanford has played U.SC either the 2nd or 3rd game of the season. I think we should just get used to early to mid September games vs. the T.rojans.

- Yes playing USC in the second week sucks. But as others have said, that is the way things are going forward as long as we both play ND. Can't say we're surprised. At least with the Rice game is Australia being extra early we'll have a sort-of bye week before them, which is nice.
- Having the first 3 games away is kind of rough, but at least we save our home schedule (and a good one at that) for when students are back.
- Hard to look at this schedule and not come away thinking it's a tough one, but we know that going in. The weaker OOC are away, the tough and usually good opponents are home, USC is away, heck even Wazzou might be a tricky one.
- UW on Friday is the only real complaint I have. That's just stupid. Play the ***** games on Saturday.

On the bright side, we're fortunate we played USC so early on this season before they figured out who the best QB on their team was.

I think the main thing is that we played them before we got destroyed by injuries. I don't see how Darnold makes that big of a difference in that game.

Hey, a bye week! And it's almost midway through the season, after game 7. And because the next game after bye is a Thursday, they get an extra couple day's rest before WSU. Seems pretty ideal, though I hate the idea of a Thursday night game at Oregon State.Â
Also not wild about a Friday game vs. Washington, but if both teams are good, it will be a national spotlight game, so there's that.

Playing only one game from October 14 to November 4 does seem to be favorable scheduling given that midterms often take place mid to late October.

I really like the idea of Thursday games following a bye. It basically divides the extra rest from the bye between two games. So, we will have 12 days before the away game at OSU and 9 days before the away game at WSU. Plus, we get eight days before the Cal game, and, if we go to Australia, a 14 day break before USC. The only short week is 6 days before the home game against UW, but it's a home game, and unless UW has a bye the week right before, they will be doing a Friday road game with 6 days rest.

UW plays UCLA in Seattle the Saturday before they travel to Stanford.
UW also catches a h.uge break - they don't play U.SC in the regular season.

Going to take a crack at the W-L:
Rice: 99%
SC: 50%
SDSU: 75%
UCLA: 75%
ASU: 75%
Utah: 55%
Oregon: 75%
OSU: 80%
WSU: 65%
Washington: 55%
59ers: 75%
ND: 80%
=
8.59 wins

Also worth noting that we played UW on Friday last season as well, although in our case it was (of course) coming off a road game. I doubt rearranging that would've changed the outcome much, but it sure didn't help.

You think we are favorites (or even) on all our games?
I'd say we will be underdogs at USC.
I don't think we'll be favorites against UW, even at home.
I'm surprised that we would have a higher win probability against UDFG than against Cal.

I know that Stanford canʻt play against all Pac12 schools. For 2017, Colorado and Arizona are not on the schedule. Can someone help me understand how those schools are selected? Is it random? Will there be a year where one or both LA schools are not on the schedule or will it always be the Arizona and Mountain Schools?
Nice to see Utah on the schedule again.

Well, I tend to think Stanford will be better in 2017 than 2016. I'm not sure that'll be the case with SC -- great QB, great RB, some question marks elsewhere. Given the historical closeness of the rivalry, I think 50-50 is about right.
With respect to UW, I'm thinking general health and (potentially) better offensive play plus playing at home gives Stanford a slight edge.
With respect to N.D./59ers, the homefield advantage plays a decisive role. I also expect N.D. to be self-destructing by the end of the season, while I think the 59ers should be more or less OK throughout due to a new coach.
If I, say, knock off 20% on each UW and SC, then Stanford's 8.19 expected wins. So it seems 8-9 wins is a reasonable band for Stanford.

Nice to see Utah on the schedule again.
When the North/South split happened, part of the agreement was that the California schools were guaranteed to play each other every season.
