A little Notre Dame schadenfreude - Redrum - 11-27-2016

Snippets from NDNation:

Notre Dame was once a great Catholic football school. Now it is neither.

So true, but it was a bad Catholic school before it became a bad football school, so we’re paying the price for the priest who led the American Catholic universities against the Vatican to claim they had the academic ‘autonomy’ to teach contrary to Catholic theological and moral teachings. Look at the award they gave to Joe Biden for being an ‘exemplar’ Catholic, disgusting! Even if they were winning, they wouldn’t deserve the support of faithful Catholics.

At one time, Notre Dame was a Catholic University focused on education and religion first, athletics second. It recruited Catholic players that could pass a rigorous course load. These players went to class, played with class and won football games. Greatly disturbing to see our player that thinks it is ok to assault a defenseless player by stepping on his ankle, and a semi-conscious player by “walking” through his injured head. This individual should be removed from the school. Have we become Baylor? I prefer to watch the Academies and Stanford – athletes, gentlemen and students playing football.

The academies, but not Stanford. They are jerks.

Yeah, but we're 9-3 jerks and beat ND, so suck on it!

Great Catholic colleges - Mick - 11-28-2016

Terrence Gleason doesn't really know whereof he speaks.  Among Catholic colleges, the better academics are found at the schools which didn't adhere to Vatican doctrine; e.g., Jesuit schools like BC and Georgetown, and those from other orders including Noter Dame.

90% of the  200 American Catholic colleges and universities don't adhere to Vatican principles, incidentally.  The 10% of Catholic colleges that adhered to Vatican doctrine and have the literal stamp of approval?  They're in the Newman Society and most have seminaries attached.  You haven't heard of most of them: Aquinas, Ave Maria, Belmont Abbey, Benedictine, Catholic University of America, Christendom, DeSales, Franciscan, Holy Apostles, John Paul the Great, Mt. St. Mary's, Northeast Catholic, st. Gregory's, Thomas Aquinas, Thomas More College, U. of Dallas, U. of Mary, U. of st. Thomas, Walsh University and Wyoming Catholic.  Household names, all.

Best of luck trying to show reality to fans of the south bend college of football and police transparency...
