Because we\'re quick to criticize... - washingtonismoney - 02-26-2011

And unjustifiably so. Still: men\'s basketball beat Oregon soundly, 88-71. I wasn\'t able to watch the game at all, which I\'m not happy about, but defensively it seems we did pretty well, holding Oregon to a FG% of 39%. It looks like the high score is attributable to a fast pace, which is something I\'ve felt Dawkins should be doing for a while now. Hopefully next year, with (we hope) a better point guard situation, he\'ll be more eager to let athletes like Owens and Powell run and gun.

I didn\'t see the game either, but Josh Owens had an outstanding line: 31 points on 12-15 shooting, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks.

MBK beat Oregon??  Wow!  I don\'t know if Oregon is in a down year, but that\'s still impressive.

Ducks are pretty much where we were last year: new coach; extended hiring process helped lead to depleted roster due to transfers etc. They\'re starting 2 transfers and a true freshman (Lloyd) @ point guard.

Picked to finish 10th in preseason writers poll.

That being said, they had a nice recent run of playing at near their max capability, sweeping home & home from hapless Oregon State, sweeping the WA schools in Eugene and plucking road wins from USC and us. The more delusional Duck fans were starting NIT talk.

Looks like the thin roster wheels came off this weekend, plus possibly our team and coaches had a "we have no business losing to those guys" moment and stepped up their game.

Perhaps reason for closely guarded optimism for an end of season & conference tourney mini run?

Quote:Not really. Oregon\'s record is virtually identical to ours.
Oregon does have one thing that we don\'t--the strangest and most distracting basketball court in the NCAA.

Quote:I listened to some of the game on XM Sirius. It sounded like Stanford just couldn\'t miss. Our field-goal percentage for the game was over 59 percent; for the second half, over 65.

burger - apparently our players didn\'t find the shooting background terribly distracting. Seems they rather liked it.

Does anyone else think that floor in the Oregon basketball stadium is just butt-ugly? I guess it looks differently in person from the way it looks on TV -- but geez.... :P

Re: Because we\'re quick to criticize... - Leftcoast - 02-28-2011

I\'m with you Nan3cy - It\'s ugh-ly.

I guess it\'s supposed to look like a meadow in the trees, if you can imagine an acid-rain swept, post holocaust meadow set in a toxic landfill.

Even so, the graphic doesn\'t work.  Are you supposed to imagine laying on your back, in the landfill mind you, and looking DOWN at the meadow in some gravity defying perspective?

And how do these new courts without a center tip-off circle (the oval "O" doesn\'t count) work anyway?  How are the players supposed to know where to stand?

Probably the whole point was to get Oregon Basketball talked about during a year they were picked to finish 10th.

I actually like it.

Re: Because we\'re quick to criticize... - Pastor - 02-28-2011

Can you find the half-court line?

Re: Because we\'re quick to criticize... - gtrplyr1 - 02-28-2011

You can see the jump ball circle inside the Oregon O. The lines are much clearer when you\'re on the court.

Re: Because we\'re quick to criticize... - Pastor - 02-28-2011

But as someone who lives in Eugene and been to Matt Court for three games and watched on TV, if the palyers can see it, they\'re the only ones.
