Question about traffic/parking -
banker2 - 09-01-2016
I'm taking my son to the game tomorrow. It will be the first Stanford game for both of us. We'll be driving from Sacramento.
Any tips on the fastest route? Also, where would you suggest that we park?
Thanks in advance. We're big college football fans and we can't wait for this game.

I highly recommend parking in Lot 13 which is on Arboretum to the west of Palm Drive. It's a little longer walk to/from the stadium but it's easy to get in and out compared to the other lots.
The easy way to get there is to take I-280 South, exit Sand Hill Road, take the second ramp (North, toward campus & Menlo Park). Go about 3 miles to Arboretum, turn right. Go past Quarry Rd and the lot will be on your left about 1/3 mile after your turn onto Sand Hill Road.
Getting out is easy too. Exit right out of the lot onto Arboretum, turn left at Sand Hill (where the road ends) and take that back to I-280.
Have a great time!

I come from the Sacramento area. 80 to the by pass 80 at Fairfield, 680 to 237 to 101 go north to San Antonio. Then follow Wintrop's instructions. Â

I always park in Palo Alto and walk over. Parking in the lots creates a bit of a cluster f--- on exiting the game.

There are several routes from Sac'to, so I usually check traffic at decision points to make choices. You can take 80 W to 680 S to 580 West to 238/880 South and cross the bay at San Mateo or Dumbarton bridges to 101 South. If 80 is very slow, it can be faster to take 5 south from Sacramento to 205 west to 580 west, then at the 680 interchange you can decide whether to continue on 580 to 238/880, or go around the bottom of the bay on 680 as BobK described. (don't get on 280 as Winflop describes, that's out of the way--I think he thought you were coming from SF)
You can also park right across El Camino Real from the stadium at Palo Alto High School, the fee goes to support the high schools.
Come early because traffic approaching the stadium area can be slow. There is a "fan fest" near the stadium and tailgaters to keep you occupied.
