Another frosh starter, Bubic, has struck out the first three Longhorns in his first career start! 0-0 after 1.
Re: Baseball @ Texas -

Kris Bubic retires 2 Longhorns before giving up a single, but gets out of the inning unscathed. After two innings, 0-0.
Interestingly, Sidearmstats has us lableled UNLV. ???

After 7 innings, it's still 0-0 with 3 hits for each team as both pitching staffs have kept 7 (Stanford) and 5 (Texas) runners from scoring.
And happy to report that Sidearmstats has figured out that we aren't UNLV.

Cardinal wins 1-0 in a tense 12-inning marathon! Bubic-Hock-Viall shuts out the #23 Longhorns! ARN! Now on to hoops... 8)

The Cardinal win on a bases loaded fielder's choice in the top of the 12th - single, error, sac bunt, intentional walk, then a ball to 3B that he threw to second rather than home - I'm betting he thought he could turn two, but Diekroeger beat it out. Amazing pitching performance by Babic, Hock, and Viall - 12 innings, 5 hits, 6 walks, EIGHTEEN strikeouts, including the final out of the game.

A fantastic win. Can't believe 18Ks.Â

Game 2 has started. Unless you have Longhorns network, it's KZSU or Sidearmstats.
Beck will take the mound in the bottom of the first.

We went down 4-0 in the third inning, but have chipped away and are at 4-3 with the tying run on 2nd in the 8th. Exciting times!

Indeed! Even more exciting -- making sure I don't flub the pre-game tailgate execution tomorrow before the afternoon game :) Upsetting #22 Fullerton in the series (but not sweeping them) and a potential series win over Texas would be a great sign of a turnaround season.

Top of the 8th, down one run, two outs, bases loaded...Austin Barr to bat :)

Barr grounds out on a 2-1 count...

Neither team scores in the 9th--Stanford drops this one 3-4. Tomorrow's game could be really windy with the prevailing winds projected in the direction of hitting (but the stadium has high walls, so who knows what the eddies do).

Is Ed Sprague back?! That will help our bats, for sure! ð

Didn't get to listen to yesterday's and today's games, but it sounds like the latter (11-1 Win) made up for the former(9-0 Loss).
There is no shame in splitting a 4-game series at #23 Texas, and there are encouraging signs on the mound and, today, with the bats.

winning 2 of #21 Fullerton and splitting 2-2 at Austin vs #23 Texas should get us in... if we weren't already

Texas dropped out and we are no longer listed as "Others Considered" At 4-3, CSF drops to #23. Five teams with 3 or more losses are in the Top 25. Tough crowd!

The hitting needs to get better. Before scoring 11 yesterday, Stanford had scored just 15 runs in its first 7 games. Even with 15 hits yesterday, Stanford's team batting average is just .200.

Too bad the game that the Austin club came out to watch was the 0-9 loss. Ouch! The hitting looked tentative, and the pitching obviously had a rough time in the 4th inning that day. The weather was beautiful, however, and the BBQ/beer was just the thing for a casual tailgate. Wish I had been there for the revenge beatdown on Sunday--who plays four-game series any more? Let's hope the players picked up some valuable experience and trend upward into conference play...

FWIW, the USA Today Coaches' Poll has CSF at #16 (273 pts), Texas in "Others Receiving Votes" (but 27th? with 68pts), and Stanford much further down (36? with 12 pts). Gotta play them one game at a time...

That USA Today Coaches' Poll is from February 3. In any event, I agree that if we play them one game at a time and do well, the ranking will take care of itself.
