Pretty candid question from this particular famous loser

I dunno... - Redrum - 02-13-2016

Quote:The big, looming question will be what happens if -- when? -- Shaw leaves. My strong impression is Shaw, a former Stanford receiver, loves coaching his alma mater and isn't infected with a climber's, grass-is-always-greener mentality. That said, he's also extremely competitive, so one day he might want to make a run at the NFL.

Then the question would be simple: Will Stanford make another inspired hire?

I dunno.  How long will it take for Muir to find football's Johnny Dawkins?

Outcome of a miserable USC education: a post that begins "To what do you owe...?"

Re: A miserable Literature's most famous losers - ColoradoTree - 02-13-2016

The prospect of Muir still being here in 10 years when Shaw finally leaves for the NFL is a most depressing one.

The most important bit of education given to an athlete from USC is "You have the right to remain silent . . ."

And among other things, this is one reason I have bad dreams at night...and then wake up to one.  Can anyone here express confidence that Bernard Muir would even come close to Bowlsby's two home  run picks?  We have one big data point and it doesn't inspire confidence.  Any spokesmen for the Muir defense?  I would genuinely like to hear the best defense / vote of confidence in a Muir football coach decision.

My hope is that  Shaw will groom his successor from within. I think he will have a lot invested in the ongoing success of the program.

If Shaw leaves before Muir does - and I don't think that's very likely - I don't think Muir will need to hire someone who has no head coaching experience.  There will be plenty of great coaches chomping at the bit to get the job.  Both Shaw & Harbaugh have shown that you can compete at the top of both football and athletics.

WF,
Muir did say something about this rumor in the Friday meeting, but I missed it.  Do you recall his exact words?
