Shuler's gone, but - yvonne - 01-19-2016

Not without effusive praise to the entire Stanford community.

Graham Shuler - stepping away from football to get on with his life - Spiny_Norman - 01-19-2016

A sincere and articulate thank you to the Stanford community as Graham Schuler announces that he will not play football next year.

Quote: After wrestling with this decision for the last several weeks, I feel a strong sense of empowerment to do something different — to chase my dreams and opportunities outside of football.

Best of luck to Graham in all he does next.

Grateful to everything Graham has done for Stanford.  He's represented our school with class and wit for his four years here, and we can't reasonably expect anything more.

Sure, selfishly I want him back to ease Chryst through the transition, but the man has done his part with honor.  Godspeed, sir!

What a great young man.  He's clearly got his head screwed on straight and his priorities pretty good.  Selfishly I'd love to see him out there next fall but he'll succeed in whatever he does.

I think I'll likely expand on this at some point, but this lengthy thank you by Graham Shuler, the essay that Remound Wright released two weeks ago, and various things that we've heard from Josh Garnett (and even Michael Rector's thoughtful explanation of his decision to return) all show what I love about Stanford football. I'm not naive enough to think that all Stanford players are as articulate as these three, nor do I believe that players like this don't exist at places like Alabama or Ohio State or even U,S,C, but I love that these players feel so connected to the University. They aren't just football players waiting for the NFL to come calling or for their eligibility to run out, whichever comes first, they're young men looking to make their way in the world.

So yes, it would be great if Shuler wanted to stick around for another year, but who could ever blame him for leaving? When I arrived on campus for my senior year, I was terribly sad that it would be my final year on campus, but by January I was ready to move on and start the rest of my life. It looks like Graham Shuler is also, and I wish the best.

Funny, in fall my senior year I was quite ready to move on. By June, I was feeling terribly sad it was over.

Wow that sucks bad(for Stanford football not him). One step forward two steps back.
