Re: Luisetti and Keefe , Knight and Lichti - Hank 91 - 01-19-2016

I decided I'd vote for any players who were selected all-conference four years in a row. So I cast my vote for Todd Lichti.

Frosh weren't eligible until about 1975.

I doubt any Stanford guys get named.  Going back a century it is hard to find many players who didn't play for Wooden.  You throw in some Arizona players maybe.  Looking at the football equivalent I don't remember too many guys from the dark ages making the cut, worthy though they might have been.

There are some interesting classifications on the Forward list.  Just as they did in the Guard list the authors are lumping all forwards into one classification.  This creates some interesting problems.

For instance, Ike Diogu and Kevin Love, both of whom played a lot of Center, are listed as forwards and are classified alongside small forwards like Sean Elliot and Reggie Miller.  You only get ONE vote in each category so do you cast it for Elliot a versatile small forward or Kevin Love who played a power game close to the basket?  Do you vote for a great off guard like Brandon Roy or a point guard like Mike Bibby or Jason Kidd?  Are  you rating the players against position peers or factoring in a value for the position to rank PGs over SGs?

Even if you snarkily throw out Jason Kidd, Kevin Johnson, Lamond Murray and Shareef Abdur-Rahim (a move I applaud ;) ) there are still a lot of good players to choose between.

One other gotcha - recency bias and NBA careers seem overweighted in voting.  Being an NBA star after 1980 is the ticket to winning the fan vote thus far.  The top 3 vote getters for Guards in order - Gary Payton, Brandon Roy, Jason Kidd; The top 3 for Forwards - Sean Miller, Reggie Miller, AC Green.  All six are recognizable NBA All Stars who played in the association since 1980.  The timeline will no doubt be moved lower with Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Walton and John Wooden in the Center and Coach categories.  All three are sure to be among the leaders in voting or just throw the whole thing out.

I voted for Jason Kidd (yeah, I know) and Hank Luisetti (well, you know) but your results may vary.  Stats alone might point toward someone other than Kidd who had an ugly shot and a higher than expected turnover ratio while in college but I loved his court vision and aggressive handle.  Gary Payton would also be a good choice.  I love Brevin and he won some head-to-head battles against Kidd but he didn't impact the game the way the other two choices did.  By the way, 93/94 was a great year to watch Pac 12 guards with Tyus Edney, Brevin Knight, Jason Kidd and Damon Stoudamire from the "All Century" list having great seasons in the same year.
