"Voldemort" award name on this board - larkinforever - 01-18-2016
As I haven't noticed anyone else comment on this, I may be the only one who feels this way and am prepared to have everyone on here disagree with me, but in contrast to the names that are used for disparaging our rivals (which I'm fine with), I find the "Voldemort" name to be rather whiny.
Can we consider not having auto replacement kick in when using that word?

I agree. We don't want to disparage it too badly, because we're going to want to celebrate it next year when he wins it.
I am still in favor of the idea of creating a trophy for the runner up.

I'm on board for removing pretty much all of these auto-corrects (except the ones that change rival fans attempts to disparage Stanford. It's pretty hilarious when a C'al fan comes on here and types "the school I wish I had gotten into").
But this one definitely had a sell by date on it. At a minimum, I like Hulks suggestion about FABS.

I vote for the actual title of the award, which I can't type without reinforcing the autocorrect. For example, how does this sit with you? Jim Plunkett, Voldemort Trophy winner?

I'd like to be able to type whatever I want without the helpful autocorrect feature, no matter how poor my grammar. (If anyone wants to call anyone anything, they are certainly free with the entire QWERTY keyboard available. But we've hoed that row before and it isn't in the cards.
On the occasions I need to list the award named after the architect of a 222-0 beatdown (capitalize that and we have one possibility), I'm referring to it as the "Theismann" or the "Hiesman."
Never understood Theismann's own change in the pronunciation of his last name. With my limited high school German, I thought it was already pronounced so as to rhyme with the Award Named After the Architect of a 222-0 Beatdown. But he certainly knew how to pronounce his own name!

Campaigns to correct the auto correct seem to have widespread support, but also reveal that while democracy flourishes in our country, it's viewed as an inconvenience here.
The autocorrects also suggest a dominant view that isn't actually dominant. I have no quarrel at all with Cal, for example. When a friend recently told me of his plan to move to the Bay Area, I recommended Berkeley. I like Aaron Rodgers and root for the Seahawks and Marshawn Lyncn.Â
I regard USC as mostly silly because I cannot take seriously a college whose cheerleaders have not changed uniforms in over 40 years; those little white sweaters make me think of men wearing powdered wigs. And the horse and rider manages to trump them, so antiquated and slowly approaching prehistoric. Dear God, if a Stanford guy showed up in that get up and stabbed a sword into the turf, I would never again appear in public in anything that even hinted where I went to college.
As for Notre Dame, I like so many of their guys--Joe Montana back when, Samardzja or whatever more recently--but marvel at their ability to hire coaches who make my All Time Most Loathed List: Lou Holtz and that dead animal on his head; Charlie Weis and his "significant strategic advantage" and obliviousness to the image of non-fitness he conveys; Ty Willingham and his traitorousness and ridiculous bungling of offensive line recruiting before he fled and left the mess to Teevens and Walt; and Brian Kelly, who manages to be at least as unattractive as each of them, and a horror in the way he publicly humiliates his players--but may he, like Helton at SC and Mora at UCLA, stay where they are forever.
And it all comes down to this. We are no longer on the downside, looking up; wer're the Alpha dogs for now. And it's axiomatic in my work that the leaders don't disparage their competitors, which make autocorrect seems too much like the guy who scores and starts celebrating wildly--as if he's never been in that position before. We're in the end zone now, guys.Â
Can we start acting as if we are accustomed to it?

Fully on board with getting rid of this particular autocorrect. We make good points about the biased nature of H.eisman voting and how it underscores a continuing disrespect for Stanford football present among the traditional, good ol' boy segments of the college football media and fandom. I think this particular autocorrect undercuts those points by appearing childish and petty.Â
I'd echo Hulk's comments on C.al, SC, and ND as well. If you want to use a nickname for a particular school, then by all means do so as your own rhetorical choice. But doing so here has always struck me as falling prey to the same things that annoy us about other boards, and particularly other teams' fan boards (such as F.urd and the like). This is a higher caliber of discussion than is generally present on college football forums, so I'd like to think we're above this.Â

I too would like to get rid of the autocorrect for the same reasons articulated above. I would also like to point out that said dead fake girlfriend went to Stanford so we are actually the Fake Dead Girlfriend University.
I do think keeping the the school I wish I had gotten into one is a good idea. I would suggest one autocorrect for SC which is "SouthernCal". I hear they hate getting called that.

The auto corrections used on this board often turn eloquent sentences into annoying gibberish. In spite of this, some of the proponents of auto correction are also ardent members of the grammar enforcement committee. Isn't the intent of grammar to make writing more understandable and enjoyable? I find this contradiction very interesting.
