Reports are coming out that James Vaughters has canceled his other visits and declared that he is 100% committed to Stanford.

I wonder if this means we have the DC figured out. I seem to remember that was one of the key considerations Vaughters and/or his dad had mentioned as giving them pause.

Not that this recruit was ever really in doubt, but Wayne Lyons is tweeting that he will meet with coaches Shaw and Mason tomorrow for an in-home visit, and, in his words, "all Cardinal, no wavering!" Â
Reading the tea leaves: does the fact that the coaches are out shoring up the class with in-home visits further indicate that some of the hiring decisions have been made? Â Wouldn\'t one think that Shaw would be in Palo Alto holding interviews if searches were still on-going? Â

Based on other things Shaw has said, no, it doesn\'t mean that. He said during his opening press conference that he was flying to Hawaii that evening to meet with a recruit. It\'s good news that the recruit is committed, but it\'s neither good nor bad news that Shaw is visiting.

One possibility as to why the staff hiring is taking so long: Shaw wants coaches from teams currently in the NFL playoffs.

Build your defense around Vaughters for he is a one man wrecking crew who creates havoc. This prospect has the size, athleticism, playing strength and speed to be a dominant player at the major level of competition early in his career. Also plays tight end displaying good quickness and explosive blocking ability. Shows excellent flexibility, quickness and balance; does a great job getting the early read on run plays to and away. This guy has a great limp leg technique which allows him to step over bodies in pursuit of the football. Is always around the ball making big hits, while forcing and recovering fumbles. There is no quit in this guy; he plays non stop! With a great senior year, Vaughters could very well step in as an immediate starter. Regardless, early playing time and special teams play are in his immediate future at the next level.

That sounds pretty good, though I remember someone\'s evaluation of him from the Army All-American game as being less superlative. Â I\'ll take ESPN\'s description though!

I think this description was made before the season. Â I don\'t have a Rivals.com/Scout.com subscription, but those probably have more current descriptions.

I don\'t recall Vaughters having any kind of major injury. Â Wayne Lyons, the safety commit, missed a few weeks with come kind of injury, but apparently looked fantastic at the Army All American game, where he actually played CB, leading at least one analysis I read to state he might fit at either position at the college game.
