recruits visiting - Robbie - 01-14-2011

Here is the Twitter feed of Stanford commit Remound Wright, currently on his official visit. Interesting to see the world from his perspective.

If you know of any other public information about the weekend feel free to share.

And, for the record, I vote \'no\' on black helmets.

Re: recruits visiting - yvonne - 01-14-2011

NO BLACK HELMETS!!!

Re: recruits visiting - rwait08 - 01-14-2011

If it sells us on some recruits, I say let them play with black helmets for a game   :P

Re: recruits visiting - fullmetal - 01-14-2011

so...we\'re edging toward Texas Tech\'s look some more? :p

Re: recruits visiting - Leftcoast - 01-15-2011

It\'s a game played by 20 year old kids.  If it adds a little fun and gives them something to be excited about then by all means break out the Oregon style unis.

Just please only ONCE per year.

Yvonne, that twitter account has been locked for people who don\'t follow him/her. Mind copy/pasting it?

WhoJVWillBe James Vaughters
Program still seems pretty solid. I like what I\'m hearing from the players and everything
___

BTW, he wants followers.

Re: recruits visiting - bulldogbigred - 01-15-2011

I would go for black helmet and the black uniforms but only once or twice a year. I would like some variety in our uniforms.

Re: recruits visiting - Farm93 - 01-15-2011

Quote:Ernie Nevers wore red and white. John Brodie wore red and white. Jim Plunkett wore red and white. John Elway wore red and white. Toby Gerhart wore red and white. The Dollies wear red and white. We\'ve done just fine with red and white.

Sure, but Andrew Luck wore black!  And ran for an amazing TD while wearing black too.  The team won that game, and went on to win 12 times in the season.

But that superstition stuff would not be the reason it should be considered.  If a bunch players and potential 4 and 5 star want to wear black with a green trees on the shoulder pads then I will go with it if that\'s what the team wants.  It is just a uniform.  They are the guys risking their bodies for a game, I am just sitting in the stands.

BTW - The Dollies don\'t wear red and white for Big Game.  If they can mix it up for the school\'s most important game of the year, I think the football guys can mix it up for an OOC game or two.

Re: recruits visiting - yvonne - 01-15-2011

It\'s not about superstition. It\'s about tradition.

Penn State wears blue and white uniforms with nothing on them
Michigan wears blue and gold uniforms with a distinctive helmet
Notre Dame wears blue with golden "domes"
Nebraska wears red with white pants
Alabama wears a darker red with numbers on the helmet
Texas wears burnt orange with a white helmet and longhorn logo
USC wears cardinal and gold

and Stanford wears cardinal and white

Re: recruits visiting - JohnR34231 - 01-15-2011

ND shows up periodically in green jerseys.

But, as I\'ve said before, as long as they win I don\'t care if they show up with pink polka dots on their uniforms.

I realize I\'m in the minority on this.

Re: recruits visiting - tjhsiang - 01-15-2011

For most of my football-watching life, Oregon has always something like 50 different uniforms and every NFL has at least one alternate/throwback uniform, so it doesn\'t really bother me either.  Black-on-black is a brobdingnagian disadvantage though on a hot, sunny day for obvious reasons.

Re: recruits visiting - washingtonismoney - 01-15-2011

I\'m fine if the black jerseys become the Stanford equivalent of Notre Dame\'s green jerseys, which they seem to unearth once a year for important games. Given the rumor that the black jerseys were supposed to be worn for the USC game last year, I\'d say that was more-or-less the intention. So I\'d be fine with that--particularly since I own a #12 black jersey.

Re: recruits visiting - yvonne - 01-15-2011

I\'d be fine with it ONLY if it were the equivalent of ND green jerseys, not if it were a progression to black trim or regular black jerseys.

Re: recruits visiting - Farm93 - 01-15-2011

Quote:ND shows up periodically in green jerseys.

Notre Dame wears green from time to time.  They usually bust them out for big time opponents, so I could see why Stanford types might know that.  This year Ohio State wore "Throwback" uniforms and helmets,  TCU and Virginia Tech switched up the helmets.

And everyone that is anyone will be wearing different uniforms and helmets in a few years.  Bank on it!  It won\'t have anything to do with tradition (reason to not change) or superstition (traditional reasons to switch it up) or recruiting (even Auburn kids like Oregon\'s variety).  They will change for revenue.  Nike, Adidas and that crew will want it and demand it.  And the best ADs know they need to keep up with the times.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=132805623

Besides, change is constant.  Were any of those tradition oriented programs wearing swooshes or three stripes or big oddly shaped "H" letters 40 years ago?  Nope!  Were any of them NOT wearing those items in 2010?  Nope!

So it will happen unless the NCAA decides to ban the practice.  And given the revenue involved I think we all know that\'s not happening.

Just be thankful that the kids actually like the variety because, like the logo placement trend, it will happen anyway.

Another reminder,..... - JohnR34231 - 01-15-2011

.......that when you sift through the high minded statements, and the, well, BS, you discover it\'s all about the Benjamins.

.

It\'s hard to believe that you think
Notre Dame
Michigan
Alabama
Texas
Texas A&M
Penn State
Alabama
Auburn
USC
UCLA

and anyone else with a recognizable brand is nobody.

Well, you\'d know better than anybody, I guess.

Re: recruits visiting - fullmetal - 01-15-2011

So Yvonne, what would the subconscious reason be for listing Alabama twice? :p
