Well deserved. Thanks for the national championship, Mr. Morris.

I'm no MLS fan, but why doesn't the league put him on the Earthquakes?  They took Landon Donovan away from the Earthquakes and gave him to L.A., IIRC.  They have a new stadium and could develop a big following with a big name, IMO.

Because Morris played for Seattle's youth teams. They have right of first refusal if Morris wants to play in MLS.

Morris also training with Bundesliga club Werder Bremen: http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/01/05/jordan-morris-seattle-sounders-werder-bremen

Congrats to Jordan.

How much is a rookie contract with a Bundesliga team worth?

I'm jealous you have men's soccer, let alone had Jordan Morris and a national championship. Congrats to him and Stanford.

As expected.  Great for him and he deserves  a BIG contract.

Thank you Jordan Morris for 3 great years of soccer at Stanford and hopefully many many many many more.

Hard to find good comps since they don't really have the same system as we do. (In Europe, kids debut at 16-18 or so from their club's academy.) Since Morris is 21 -- and a national team player -- he's in a very weird category.

"Rookies" in Europe get paid peanuts >$100k/year.  Guys who make it onto the 20-25 man 1st team roster of a top league (EPL, Bundesligia, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, etc.) club starts in 7 figures and makes it to 8 figures if he becomes a leading player.

The track record of US players going at a young age into the top European leagues is not a good one, viz. Bradly, Donovan, Altidore, Howard (who was handed the GK job at Man United on a platter and dropped the platter...).  Unless Jordan can get into a team where the manager and the GM see him as a potential Galactico, he is better to stay in the MLS and look to a jump to the big leagues and the big bucks after he has proven himself in NA (viz. McGuire, Keller, Dempsey, etc.).

IMHO

Bit of a strange argument to include Howard, who's made a strong (probably stronger than Keller or Friedel) career at Everton. Or, for that matter, Bradley, who was successful at most stops before getting mired as (effectively) a "12th man" at AS Roma. (Bradley later got paid way more money by MLS than any European team would pay him.) So both of those are, in my mind, unambiguous success stories.

Altidore is a mixed story. Donovan's the greatest U.S. player ever. All four are millionaires several times over. If these are the cautionary stories then Morris should probably go.

The real cautionary stories are the ones no one knows about.

Re: Morris going pro, in talks with Seattle - Stymie - 01-06-2016

Not "strange" re: Tim.  He eventually found his level at Everton, but he had his chance at being a Galactico at Man U and flubbed it.  He was shown up as a non-Galactico in the past two World Cups.  If Team USA had De Gea rather than him in Brazil, we mighta been a contenda......
