2016 record predictions -

Since the 2016 schedule is now set, would anyone like to predict wins and losses at this early juncture?

Somewhere between 4 and 12 wins.
I don't think it's possible to predict until we have some sense of how the QB is going to perform, and how well the defense (especially the DL) is coming together.

If this is more than 3 months away, I have to go with 12-0.
Just because I drink the kool-aid every off-season.

I see at least 7 games that could go either way depending on how things realistically play out with our QB/other changes.Â
USC, UCLA, Washington, Washington State, and Notre Dame is a hell of a 5 week stretch. That's going to make our break our season.Â
This is a really tough schedule.Â

I would guess 8-4, third in the P12N (behind Oregon and Washington)
Losses against UDFG, Oregon, Washington, and UCLA (all on the road) seem the most likely.
Agree with stupac that the downside is 4-8 (wins against Colorado, Rice, Oregon State and one of K State, Cal, and Arizona). Also agree that 12-0 is possible, but unlikely; I would probably peg the best case scenario at 11-1.
Toughest game is probably UDFG.
Toughest conference game might be UW (away game on a short week after another away game)

USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, and Oregon have enough talent and success for me to believe the idea that either team could win on any given Saturday. The road split is awful, so would probably hope for a 2-2 split. 3-1 or better with those four should place Stanford in the CFP discussions.
Hard to know how the team will do with a new QB, but like the idea that the team looks relatively strong in most areas. USC has a new QB and a new coach/system. Oregon will have a new QB, likely not from the system. So it is not as if the other top teams on the schedule are worry free.
If the others are concerns then Stanford fans should prepare for Las Vegas or El Paso. As the team is preparing for Rose Bowl #3 in four years, I really see no reason to fear the downside. A disappointing year may emerge, but really I would expect Stanford to sit in the preseason top 10.

If we win in Pasadena, probably. We'll have the Voldemort runner-up returning, most of our OL, most of our offensive weapons, a lot of our defense. Replacing a QB is tough but no one outside of Stanford appreciates Hogan anyway so that probably won't be seen as a big loss, unlike Luck.
Now, will we be able to justify that ranking with our play? ¯\_(ã)_/¯

I think anything below 8-4 is a near impossibility.
Even with an average quarterback, this is a team that will crush Kansas State, Rice, Cal, and Coloradio, and should have little trouble with Washington State in a dry and supportive Stanford Stadium. Even with iffy quarterback play, Stanford's only test at home will be USC.
So give us five home wins, and a great shot at a sixth--in which we will playing a team we outscore by 29 points in two games this year.
Oregon State will be horrible: make it six wins.
Cal, without Goff, will be slightly better, and not good: That's seven.
It comes down to Washington, which has a pretty good but far from great quarterback, and a defense that will have lost, over the last two season, four players drafted in the first 45, its two best linebackers--Littleton and Feeney--and its best defensive lineman, Tupou, plus its three leading wide receivers. It's tough up there, but a very good chance at eight.
That leaves Notre Dame there, UCLA there, and Oregon there--plus, again, USC at home. UCLA keeps losing good guys up front; their best guy, Kenny Clark, is gone, and their very best player period, Jack, is gone, too. And they have a Stanford problem, and we traditionally play well in LA, which is a very easy trip that takes little adjusting. Perkins and Rosen make them dangerous, but we also can rely on them to shot themselves often in the feet with penalties,Â
Notre Dame is getting killed by graduation. They lose one of the nations' best linebacker, Smith, a terrific DL in Sheldon Day, two terrific offensive linemen including the elite Ronnie Stanley. Have to see on Fuller, who may return to try to prove to the pros he doesn't have iffy hands, too often, and Prosise, who looked damned good to me. Schmidt is gone at LB, too, and both of their other two WRs, as I read their depth chart. We beat them and they'll be hurt more by graduation than we are. It's been close there so often: Give us no worse than a 35% chance.
Oregon is heading south but has lots of speed, very good wide receivers, and Freeman. But can anyone on their team stop anyone on our team from scoring? Buckner is gone, joining Armstead from last year. Their defense could be very very bad, and it's not clear they'll have a QB in Adam's class, and certain whomever he is will be about 30 PER points short of a Mariota. We've beaten them there. Worst case, 35%, but there's a better chance we're a slight favorite.
I'd bet on us winning at least one of two from ND and Oregon, and I'd be surprised if we went 1-3 against the meat of UCLA, USC, ND, and Oregon.Â
And we will have the nation's best and most dangerous offensive weapon, a terrific defensive backfield that will never have to play bend but don't break, and the conference's four best special teams.Â
10-2, and a win over USC in the Big One: 11-2.

I see the most likely range of W-L as 11-1 to 8-4. I think at ND is a loss. They always play us tough, and I like the look of their young QB. My hunch is they'll be in the thick of the playoff hunt, as much as any team next season. Whereas we seem to treat the Coliseum and R.B. as homes away from home, we struggle on the road in some places, South Bend being one of them. At Oregon and Udub I see as toss-ups but likely losses. At UCLA feels like another toss-up, but more likely a win. (Every game's a toss-up, but these road games feel more like toss-ups to me.)
Breaking in a new QB and a few guys on each line will make for a rebuilding season, but a big part of me envisions this team, in spite of the rough schedule, picking up right where it leaves off after this season. Chryst has been around the playbook and learned under a master. I think the VR thingie will help to make up some for his lack of field experience. Most of all, the run game and talent around him should smooth over his transition from bench warmer to starting QB. How quickly and well the line jells is a big and important question mark. Can't wait, in any case.
