UVa *doesn't* hire Yikes:

Do ya want to worry? What if BYU looks at Utah native Lance Anderson and thinks, "Yeahhhhhh I like that."

Tom Holmoe, former Kal FB coach, is AD at BYU.
I would guess he's pretty familiar with Yikes, Lance Anderson, and everyone in the Pac.

BYU's QB from 1995 and 1996 is looking for a job and has a winning record coaching two Pac 12 teams. As a bonus, he should be out of rehab soon.

Moving to Utah is a good way of staying off the sauce. Permanent rehab.

I should have known this, but Holmoe says any head coach must be an active member of the LDS church:

Is it really a bad thing if S.onn.y is unable to find a promotion? When he finally gets his exit job the next search will include candidates quite worried about taking a possible roach trap style job. "They check in but they can't check out."Â
Got to think a number of agents will encourage their clients to steer clear of THAT program. They might say, "Remember that S.onn.y guy? He coached a QB to become the #1 QB in the USA, and had improvement year over year. Despite that success he was stuck there, literally unable to leave."
That narrative works for me. S.onn.y is 0-3 against Stanford and is unable to escape UCB. Works for me. And since he clearly plans on getting out the recruiting is really going to get soft as most recruits have to know he wants to get out as soon as practical.Â

I guess Yikes is everybody's second or third choice, just like he was three years ago.

Apparently C.al is taking a hard line on the extension and not increasing the offer on the table. While not a fan of the school, and I wouldn't mind if they gave Dykes a very rich contract that handcuffed the school, but I would be happy to see a trend of schools reigning in contracts to unproven coaches.
I've been thinking the same thing Garvin raises. This could get very awkward for the team next year. And of course on the recruiting trail. What do high school seniors think about the recruiting pitch from a guy who clearly has 1.5 feet out the door?

When an assistant interviews for a head-coaching job and doesn't get it, there aren't usually questions of loyalty -- everybody understands why you want to take a step up. But what happens now if Yikes is still with the 59ers next year? When everybody knows he doesn't really want to be there? I don't really recall another situation quite like this one.
You mean like Harbaugh almost taking the job at Kansas? I seem to recall we were fine after.

Yikes isn't dumb. He knows he won't do as well next year. If he doesn't get a better offer elsewhere he'll take whatever Low APR U has put on the table. But if that happens, it'll be like Harbs at Stanford in that he will be looking for something better every year from here on out.

This may have been a calculated decision. Dykes, with a single winning season, had some leverage, but not much.
It wasn't as much as Dennis Green, the closest Stanford comparison I can think of, had when he had a losing record at Northwestern, a team that at the time he took over was on an NCAA Div I record losing streak. Nor was it as strong as when Green took the Cardinal to its first bowl in several years because Green's first year wasn't a sharp drop-off from the previous year. In addition, Green had signature wins, including an upset of then No. 1 NotreDame, and the Revenge against Copper Bowl-bound Kal.
Nevertheless, Dykes was able to demonstrate progression, including the first bowl game in four years.
So, Dykes' agent may have known his ability to secure another Power Five conference position was slim even before Dykes began interviewing. So the statements about being mentally checked out and only returning to Kal if he had no other options were bluffs to use the only leverage he had.

Harbaugh reportedly was offered the Kansas job in December 2009. It was reported in Kansas City that he was expected to accept it.

I'm sure he does, regardless of whether he's a part of it or not
