Hank 91 has two interesting posts regarding the Harbaugh departure and the list of coaching candidates.

Thoughtful guy. I was struck by his "Two-Faced Denny Green" term of non-endearment. I don\'t remember people being so upset with Green when he left, certainly not as upset as they were with His Royal Ungratefulness. Of course, there was no Cardboard then, so I didn\'t learn that he (somewhat like HRU?) had been assuring his players that he had no interest in other jobs and he wasn\'t going anywhere.

When Denny left almost EVERYONE in the AD knew it was coming.

The prior year Denny had interviewed for the NFL, but nothing materialized.  After the 1991 season, it was clear that Green could coach up a team.

Green left the team with an amazing bounty of talent from the 1989 recruiting class that still had 1 year of eligibility left.  Even without their coach that group knew how to play and were ready to be coached.

My guess is that JH\'s situation is probably fairly similar.  Like in 1992, the 2011 team will be highly ranked in the preseason and has a ton of coachable talent.

I suspect that leaving for the NFL is easier on everyone.  The AD does not need to worry about the coach poaching his verbal list.  The coach does not need to worry about the AD trying to recruit against him, etc.

I was pretty unhappy .... but then the AD hired Walsh.   Seemed like a good switch at the time.
