Today in former opponents - BostonCard - 10-24-2015

Don't look now, but UCF, who is now 0-7, is playing undefeated and 21 ranked Houston tough (7-7 in the second quarter).  I expect Houston to pull away, but I'll keep an eye on this one.

Remember when UCF looked like a great non-confrenence opponent? Oy.

Re: Today in former opponents - BostonCard - 10-24-2015

What will suck is when we have to make the return trip to Orlando to play UCF at 12 Eastern.  Oy.

Northwestern up 14-5 on Nebraska.

Re: Today in former opponents - TrumpCard - 10-24-2015

NW has 1 first down and it's well into Q2. They won't be able to stay with Neb at that rate.

Re: Today in former opponents - washingtonismoney - 10-24-2015

Thorson just had a play where he motored for 49-yards. Cue the DECEPTIVE ATHLETICISM commentary.

Re: Today in former opponents - winflop - 10-24-2015

Northwestern has GOT to win this game.  This is starting to look eerily like last season where they started strong and finished with a whimper.  Three losses in a row is going to put those ghosts into the team's head.

Re: Today in former opponents - BostonCard - 10-24-2015

UCF has given up 31 uncontested points; it's now 38-10.

I've always kind of liked Northwestern. My wife's parents and my parents all have various Northwestern degrees. But in the big picture, a strong Northwestern program is bad for Stanford. They compete with us in recruiting for the Stanford-type academically-oriented kids. Among the Big 10 schools, Northwestern and Michigan probably are the biggest recruiting competition for us. In the long run, we would be better off if Northwestern were to be mediocre.

Of course, this year, Northwestern plays into our strength of schedule and the perception of our program, so I guess that's a countervailing consideration.

Re: Today in former opponents - CornFed - 10-24-2015

NW takes the lead w/ a little under 10 minutes.

Re: Today in former opponents - BostonCard - 10-24-2015

Looks like Northwestern will escape with the win, barring a Michigan-like meltdown.  Trailing 8, Nebraska scores, but fails to convert the two-point conversion.

Yep, NW won at Nebraska, which now has 5 losses for the first time in a long time.

The Mike Riley era in Lincoln is not off to a good start.

So who are we rooting for in Arizona vs. WSU?  Like the Cal/UCLA game, An Arizona win makes our win against them look better, and marks WSU as pretenders.  A WSU win devalues our victory over UofA, and will make our game against them a bit more daunting.

Not opponents but.... Auburn/Arkansas is in its fourth overtime.  So far, through three and a half it's each team has scored a TD in every opportunity.

Don't forget that an Arizona win will also give us at least a two-game lead on the rest of the division.

Don't forget that we need to do our part by winning against Washington.

Re: Today in former opponents - CornFed - 10-24-2015

Announcers just announced that Arizona has had 27 different starters on defense so far this season.  Did I hear them say there are 8 new starters just today?  Just - WOW!

Re: Today in former opponents - BostonCard - 10-24-2015

It might be time to take WSU seriously.  Faulk has 186 yards passing and two touchdowns, and it is only the first quarter.

Go Arizona. Priority 1 is clinching the north
