Rank the Pac-12 teams Week 7 - OutsiderFan - 10-18-2015

For my money, Stanford has the best combo of everything.

1. Stanford
2. Utah
3. USC
4. Ca.l
5. ASU
6. UCLA
7. Oregon
8. Arizona
9. Washington State
10. Washington
11. Colorado
12. Oregon State

Re: Rank the Pac-12 teams Week 7 - BostonCard - 10-18-2015

The cream:
1) Utah - until they lose.  Big test next week.
2) Stanford - if only that Northwestern game had been played three hours later
3) Cal - Still not convinced, but no one else belongs here

The mess in the middle (seriously, I feel like I could pick 4 - 10 out of a hat):
4) ASU - the drop-off between the top three and #4 is quite large
5) USC - Had real trouble trying to figure out where they go.  On the one hand, the computers love them, and for the middle two quarters against ND, you know why.  On the other, they are a .500 team (and have a losing conference record).  Big game against Utah next week.
6) Oregon - With Adams they are a much better team than without.  Still, Adams doesn't help that defense
7) UCLA - Hard to believe they could be 1-3 in conference, but a very real possibility after next week
8) Washington State - Within the state of Washington, there is a complete team, but this one needs a defense.  Still Falk is dangerous
9) Arizona - Somehow this team is one win away from a bowl game, though three bad non-conference opponents, and the two worst conference teams gets you to five
10) Washington - See above; their defense makes them dangerous, but their offense just eeks out OSU

The bottom dwellers:
11) Colorado - Making gains, but not fast enough
12) Oregon State - Someday they will be better, but probably not this year

With you down the line.  I think if Adams stays healthy, Oregon could get rolling enough to be very dangerous.  Hate to say it, but I see one Stanford stumble left to somebody, but a Rose Bowl trip.  Wait, why would I hate to say that? So rooting for the South over the North except us, and think we'll be fine.

No way Low APR U belongs in that top echelon.  Still don't have a quality win the Yikes era.

They are clearly behind Stanford/Utah, but clearly ahead of the teams in the middle.

Eh, I dunno, before they play UCLA I'm not sure you can say that. Next week will clear up a lot about the messy middle.

Re: Rank the Pac-12 teams Week 7 - BostonCard - 10-18-2015

They beat UW and WSU, and their only loss is against Utah.  Yeah, I could see UCLA beating them, but their two wins, while not spectacular are solid.  I expect them to finish second in the North.  I can't identify which team will finish second in the south.

Cal turned the ball over six times and still had a chance to win, on the road, against the #3 team in the nation.  I think it's ok to start giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Rank the Pac-12 teams Week 7 - stupac2 - 10-18-2015

Cal is actually behind WSU (just barely) in YPP differential against power 5 teams. Way behind UCLA and Utha, also behind USC and Arizona. And, having watched them, they just don't look that good. That game against Utah did more to convince me that Utah isn't actually that good than it did to convince me that Cal is.

Would you guys be surprised if Cal lost @UCLA? What do you think the spread should be? Books have UCLA -5-7.5, which feels right to me.

No, I wouldn't be surprised.  I also wouldn't be surprised if Utah loses to OSU.  That's just how this conference works.

Re: Rank the Pac-12 teams Week 7 - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2015

I'd be shocked if Utah loses to OSU.

Anyway, the UCLA-59er game is a big, big leverage game. If the 59ers lose, they'll be 2 games back of Stanford in the North. That would make Stanford's grip on the division rather firm.
