I got sore watching the video. And it reminds me a bit of how much things have changed in football; several of those hits would have been helmet-to-helmet personal fouls and potential ejections.

Just hope he told those young men that many of those hits would get flagged today. I loved watching him play.

I can believe it. He went to Torrey Pines before I was there, but his little brother Ryan was our QB. Great family.

No s***. I was right behind you, class of 93. But I moved to the area in the middle of my junior year, so we only overlapped for 6 months.

My wife and I were talking about Palo Alto's overachiever problem (as in those articles we talked about last year) and she said that Torrey Pines was basically Paly, but in San Diego. (She went to some nearby high school whose name I can never remember). She was class of '01 I think. Her characterization ring true to you guys, or do you think that changed in your time? (Or she could be wrong.)

There are some similarities, in the sense that Torrey Pines produces very high achieving students, like Paly, and a fair share go on to elite universities. My year, I think there were seven of us who went to Stanford. On the other hand, we are talking about a place in San Diego, and TPHS strikes me as having been fairly laid back compared to Paly. Now, to be fair, I was there for 18 months in 1992-93; things everywhere have gotten a lot crazier since then. And because I was an outsider, I more or less did my thing, and didn't really know the culture there. That being said, based on my wife's descriptions of Paly (she is a grad), I would say Torrey Pines is probably a fair bit more chill.
