Sounds like they have had issues with steak eaters.

That's a comment that seems to get made about any team that has had a lot of success in the past and then encounters some adversity.

Tough to see the Ducks winning more than 5 games at this point. And 4-8 looks very possible.

Still a long season left. Don't see them better than .500 at this point but you never know.

And the commenters are already calling for Helfrich's head, which is just amazing. As if a national championship appearance just appears without good coaching, regardless of whose at QB.
They were bound to have some pain after losing Mariota and their best o-lineman and dbs. When your starting QB has about 1 week of practice under his belt, expecting greatness is delusional. Add to that the fact that the rest of the country is catching on defending and/or running super uptempo, and they are losing one of their competitive edges. It will be interesting to see if the flash and sizzle recruiting pitch holds up through some adversity.
Re: Oregon -

I can actually understand wanting to ditch Helfrich. First, why does it seem like the recruiting cupboard is completely bare? That defense went from pretty good to
horrible when a couple players leave? How did they not have anyone available to step up? I get regressing after losing Mariota, but it's not like Kelly had trouble winning with mediocre QBs (Darron Thomas isn't exactly lighting the pros on fire, I think he flamed out of the CFL). And Royce Freeman would be running for 150+ every game behind our line. Plus it looked to me like the team just gave up against WSU. In that second overtime there was no hustle, WRs weren't blocking, it was just bad. They were done. They couldn't handle any adversity and WSU could, which is why they lost. Teams don't just give up on good coaches.
So it seems to me like Helfrich:
1) Can't recruit
2) Can't develop
3) Can't coach
So why keep him?

Cannot play with 'em. Cannot win with 'em. Cannot coach with 'em. Can't do it.

You can't fire a coach one year after getting to the NCG. No other coach would want the job. Now, if he has another bad year next year, then it could be justified.
Remember, Stanford went 7-5 last year in Shaw's 4th year. It's reasonable for Helfrich to struggle the 3rd year after Kelly, especially after losing Mariota. Neither Stanford or Oregon recruits like Alabama.
Shaw appears to be getting Stanford back to an elite level one year after a dip. If he does, he will have definitively proven he can win with all his own players and no EUTM residue. Let's see what Helfrich does in 2016 before throwing him to the wolves and concluding he was simply riding the coattails of Kelly.

Last year Stanford actually did stuff well. What is Oregon doing well this year? Maybe they finish strong and it's the same type of thing as Shaw last year, but I don't think we ever looked so completely listless as Oregon did last night.

Oregon is running the ball extremely well. I suspect they'll be a challenge for Stanford.

They're always fast, and Stanford is not as deep when it comes to speed.
