Re: Class of 2016 - JohnR34231 - 01-05-2016

Carly Fiorina was a mistake? Maybe we should hire Donald Trump as a consultant to admissions. He would have screened her out.

At any rate, with the signing date less than a month away, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to find out what the deal is on Robertson. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Class of 2016 - norcard - 01-05-2016

Can anyone actually confirm Robertson isn't a match for admissions or is this just pure speculation?  He definitely seems like a Stanford kid challenging himself:

"Robertson is currently taking AP Calculus, AP Government, AP Literature and even an AP Art and Studio class." - not typical of football recruits I'd imagine.

Only data point we have is a 3.2 GPA which was good enough for Barry Sanders Jr.  School quality not withstanding ofcourse.

What was Carly's time in the 40?

Andy Drukarev over at Rivals (basically the best source for Stanford recruiting) has confirmed that getting admitted is a concern for Robertson.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 01-05-2016

Kuz, to the best of my recollection, Andy only posts that info behind his paywall, so unless you are confident that info was for public consumption, I think you should delete it.

Re: Class of 2016 - yvonne - 01-05-2016

It's quoted in the publicly available article, which kuz linked.

I respect that he's open that it's an admissions issues.  Other recruits have spun it as a fit issue, or put the Stanford cap on the table and expect people to believe that said recruit would pass us over for Northwestern or Vanderbilt.

He says he needs another 100 points on the SAT, hopefully that's across 3 parts.

This situation reminds me of Jabrill Peppers, another 5* ATH.  If any of you have seen what he's done at Michigan, you can't help but conclude that he would have been the marginal differenece that could have put us in the playoffs.

Next SAT is Jan 23, so this will definitely be a down to the wire issue. Hope the coaching staff has got him on Khan Academy.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 01-06-2016

If he is so close, my guess is Robertson gets in.  His will, and again, that art talent he has, should get him into Stanford.

Is he planning to visit on the big visit weekend?  Do the results come back before his visit or after?

This is gonna be one seriously interesting drama to see play out!

Re: Class of 2016 - FarmBoy - 01-06-2016

The linked article says that Stanford recruits can't OV until they've been admitted. I'd not heard that before. Is that correct or misinformation?

I recall multiple anecdotes about players being informed that they were accepted into the school while on their official visit to Stanford, so that can't be quite right.

not sure if Peppers was ever that interested in Stanford he committed to Michigan in the spring and never visited

IIRC, Peppers was interested in Stanford until he got his SAT score back, and then "That's all, folks".

Re: Class of 2016 - BobK - 01-06-2016

Certainly not right Farm Boy.  But some coaches do follow that.  WBB and WVB either always or darn near .

Re: Class of 2016 - CrazedZooChimp - 01-06-2016

Didn't Ben Edwards take tests like 7 times and before getting in last season?  I seem to recall the story being that he basically worked his tail off to get acceptance when I did not seem likely during his time as an Auburn commit.

Stanford is the only school that doesn't allow players to sign LOIs prior to being admitted. I'm sure that's the confusion.

Re: Class of 2016 - Bruce Wang - 01-06-2016

If Demetris or somebody that knows him is reading this, have him private message me.  In 15 minutes, I can give him my most important standardized test taking secrets.  I come from a long line of test takers including one ancestor that finished first on the Chinese civil service exam.  Secrets that I am only willing to share with blood relatives or 5* football players.

I'm saying this tongue in cheek of course.  I think this would be an NCAA violation.

I don't think that any post offering ancient Chinese secrets should need to be labeled as tongue in cheek.
