I agree on the lack of hiring not being the Prez's fault.  But there are plenty of other solutions besides hiring new therapists--contract with local providers, give students access to telehealth providers, etc.  A university as rich as Stanford should not have any problem finding solutions to this problem.

A university administration that was committed to improving access to mental health treatment would come up with other ways.  The fact that we haven't is ultimately MTL's fault.

Or you know, increase the compensation until you get people hired. How much is another student suicide going to cost the University while these positions remain unfilled?

Yes, the university should raise salaries for mental health professionals to attract new talent.  However, implementation is not the President's role.  Nor is it the Provost's role.  It's the hiring manager's job.  And if the hiring manager isn't hiring, it is the hiring manager's line manager's job to figure out what the problem is, and, if the problem is lack of applicants at the proposed salary, they need to seek an exception from the salary structure and an increase in budget to get the positions filled.  But all of that should be happening several levels below the President.  If the University President is involved in figuring out hiring issues, you have a bigger problem in your organization.

Back to basketball it’s cal 32 Stanford 30 6 1/2 minutes to go first half

Commentators noted that this is the best half of Cal basketball all season.

My guess is we will hear that a lot over the next seven weeks.
Things like....
This is the best half/game (insert team) has played all season.
This is the best half/game (insert individual opponent) has played all season.
It's great that (insert walk-on player) got a chance to play tonight.

sigh....

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - 82 Card - 01-06-2023

Time to switch to MVB on live stream.

Now win probability down to about 4%

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - BostonCard - 01-06-2023

Let me guess.  We battle back to a one possession game, but get no closer and in the end Cal wins by 7.

not if Cal keeps shooting over 70% on three pointers....

so there's a chance!!!!

what was Tulane's win probability with 4.5 min left in the cotton bowl???

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - chrisk - 01-06-2023

Stanford ranks 306 out of 352 in 3-point shooting. They are shooting above their average tonight.

Cal was at 345.

Stanford arrow down, Cal arrow up.

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - BostonCard - 01-06-2023

Yeah, we weren’t even treated to the illusion we might be able to mount a comeback.  Cal wins going away… a team with exactly 2 wins (soon to be three).

Pathetic.

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - Farm93 - 01-06-2023

I wanted at least the two conference wins over Cal this season.   I thought if Stanford had only those two wins Muir would still realize a change is required, and at least the team would sweep Cal.   That didn't happen.   :(

Maybe this loss to Cal can accelerate that much needed coaching change process.

FWIW - Muir pledged NCAA tournament or bust for a few seasons now.   The fact that he keeps going back on that pledge is reason enough to fire him too IMHO.

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - chrisk - 01-06-2023

How does the team explain the opponent shooting 72.7% from 3?

Chip.burns@glenborough.com - sunnyside sudser - 01-06-2023

Stanford still has a men’s basketball team?  I thought we shut it down when Muir was hired 10 years ago.

RE: MBB Thread (5-9, 0-4) - Card10Fan - 01-06-2023

Haase should have been gone last year. Why Muir gave him another year is beyond me. Who's worse at their job: Muir or Haase? They both look pretty incompetent to me. #FireHaaseYesterday

Exactly
We specialize in giving other teams chances to have their highest scoring game so far this season like we just did for Cal
Or for one of their guys to have a career night
Apparently It’s our mental health sacrifice service to the other pac-12 teams

RE: MBB Thread (5-10, 0-5) - PVTree - 01-06-2023

What an embarrassment. Losing to the lowly weenies by 22 points. That really shows how bad a team we are.
