He would play if he can be a contributor; he won't if the coaches don't think he can help win games.

I think playing QB for a spell in the spring could have some benefit for a receiver. Just seeing defenses from the QB perspective could potentially help receivers get a better sense for their own reading of defenses and finding gaps in zones, etc.

He's talking about david long. Tough to interpret the context unless you read the tweets live as the game happens, but it does seem like u$c bias.

it makes you wonder if Long realizes his admission status is very shaky, and is P.O.'ed about it, a little like Rex Manu was last year.

Every year we seem to lose one or two commits to the admissions process. I'm beginning to think this year it may be Long. Its a shame, in every case, that a student really wanting Stanford doesn't make it. From a football perspective it really hurts if we lose an athlete like Long.

I respect and appreciate the stringent admissions process. I think it really sets Stanford apart from some of the (for example) SEC powers. But when exceptional students who are also great football players (think Arrington Farrar) are sent away for not being quite exceptional enough, it does make you scratch your head a bit.

I read some Long quotes that suggested he's been waiting to hear word on his admission status, and that wait has made him consider other options. He's still visiting in January, but is looking at other schools to make sure Stanford is the best fit for him.Â

It would be devastating to lose Long, Swann, and not get Robertson. Well, I mean, these are the types of guys Stanford needs to break through to true national championship contender status, IMO.

I guess I am just not that threatened by recruits taking visits to other places at this point. Maybe I have drunk too much Kool-Aid, but I feel like the visits at this point are more about covering themselves in case there is an admissions problem. If that is the case, I would like them to go to the best school they can.

I tend to agree that if they are admitted they will be committed (and sign), assuming they have filled out an application.

Long would be a tremendous addition because of his talent level, but he does not play a position of need. Swann definitely plays a position of need, but Schaffer could fill the same need. Robertson would be terrific and Stanford does need a good WR, but there are some other possibilities, most notably Brandon Burton.

A few news updates on Stanford commits:
Hattis, Swann, and Ulloa all won state championships.
Williams is having shoulder surgery. Speedy recovery to him.
Robinson got his fifth star on Rivals. They think he's dynamite in coverage.

That 5th star for Robinson has vaulted Stanford to #8 in the Rivals rankings.Â
Does Costello get a 5th star? I know he had some bad games against top competition, so maybe not. Â
I sure think Kaden Smith deserves to be a 5 star, but he did get a big bump to #43 in the Rivals 100. His Senior highlights are eye-popping.
Demetris Robertson got a 5th star.
So maybe Stanford could get two 5 stars in the class and finish in the Top 5?

Speights is a really nice pick up for the Card. One of the top high school rushers ever in the state of Texas. I don't know how all these RBs fit into the master plan, but I'm sure that Shaw & Co will find a use for a group of really tremendous athletes. Looking back at the RBs and TEs in the 2009 class, you might have thought Harbaugh had a glut of talent that he couldn't use, but he made it work to say the least.Â
