Some interesting notes in this Michigan recruiting blog on some targets Stanford's after.
I looooove the fact that their WR recruit said "It was very cold, but that's something I'm going to have to deal with." Ho. Ho. Ho. Just wait, buddy. Average temp in Dec, Jan and Feb are about 20 degrees south of what you experienced, and can get 40+ degrees colder.

When Brown planned this official visit to Stanford, he had to know that Duke (like any other school) would not want its commits to visit other schools. Brown may have decided that the visit is too risky either because he needs to improve his admissions profile and/or because Shaw is comfortable with the rest of the board at RB for now. We'll see if things change, but, for now, Brown clearly looks less likely to be a part of Stanford's class.Â
More speculation, but it's possible that this reflects an arrow up for Speights and/or an arrow up for the admissions profile(s) of Stanford's current RB commits.

I'm sure Shaw would prefer verbal commits to not make other visits, but given the intricacies and uncertainties with Stanford admissions, it's understandable that Stanford allows commits to visit other schools.

I don't think Shaw cares about other trips.
I think he would feel terrible about trying to stop them for a recruit who didn't get past admissions.
Let these guys go see all of their options and decide when they have as much data as possible.

Feel free to keep holding us up as the gold standard of aggressive OL play and general blocking prowess, ESPN! You can argue whether the "line up and hit 'em in the mouth by running Power over and over" shorthand to describe our offensive identity holds true in the age of McCaffrey et al. finding lots of success on counters and outside runs (or was ever true, really, given that we had a pretty darn effective passing offense a few years back with that fellow named Luck and our army of NFL-caliber TEs), but I don't think we can argue that it's pretty darn useful shorthand in recruiting. If you're a smart offensive lineman, is there a better place for you anywhere in the country? And what RB wouldn't want to run behind that line? What QB wouldn't want to drop back behind it?Â
Anyway, glad to see that Yarbrough will fit right in. He's yet another reason why the annual predictions of the Stanford program's imminent demise make me grin. First it was Gerhart leaving, then Harbaugh, then Luck, then Luck's weapons (Ertz/Toilolo/Taylor), then our All-World defense (Skov/Murphy/Gardner et al.), and now it's supposed to be the graduation of the rest of our heralded 2012 OL recruiting class? Yes, those guys have been great. But there are plenty more 4-star OL recruits trained in the same system that are ready to step into their shoes. As long as those guys keep picking Stanford, we're not going anywhere.Â

Chryst got most all the attention because he plays QB, but Irwin's block required a lot of guts too. Irwin ran 20 yards downfield, located the safety, and then ran right into him. It was as though Irwin was a defender making an open field tackle, except that Irwin wasn't permitted to wrap up the safety he was blocking. He leveled the safety (and himself) by the sheer force of the collision.Â

Note that only Garnett and Murphy will be graduating. Shuler and Caspers both redshirted and should be back next year (I don't think they'd want to go to the NFL, and there's no reason to think they will want to graduate transfer). So, we should bring back three starters, and given the video, I think Bright will be our other tackle, and Fanaika(?) will jump in for Garnett, which would explain the staff's hesitancy to move him to the DL.

Well, Bright is listed as an OG. He comes in as an extra lineman, so it's hard to distinguish a position in the starting 5 from that.
The backups were in for most of the fourth quarter vs UCLA - though I don't immediately remember where he was playing at that time.
But Bright might be the first option for replacing Garnett.
Another 2012er who could (should?) be back is Nick Davidson. Preseason he was supposedly neck and neck with Tucker for the RT position before he got hurt and lost the spot. I would think he might be on the inside track to be one of the tackles next year.
p.s. I am sure that Caspers and Shuler would be happy to go to the NFL, just not sure they really have that option - at least as a draft choice.

Bright came in for Kyle Murphy when Murphy was (briefly) injured against SC. He may be listed as an OG but he's played at T this year. Probably he's versatile.

Didn't Bright also come in and spell Murphy for another game, for a more extended period of time? Oregon St? Or perhaps I'm confusing it with the U$C game. In any case, I remember thinking that the OL seemed to continue without missing a beat and that Bright made me feel very confident about the depth on the OL.
Also, players develop so much year-to-year I think it's really difficult to make a prediction about which of the backups this year will be moving in as starters next. Redshirting this year is Nick Wilson, who I assume will at least challenge for one of the guard spots.Â

In the comment thread following a linked article about our Washington match-up one guy (w/ a dismissive kind of tone) pointed out that, after all, they held [Stanford] to 20 points last year, so what's the big deal? Then he said the following:
"Dont fear the Tree. Go down and punch them in the mouth. They will punch back. This will be a very tough game . . . . "
The point being - The Trees Punch Back!!!! Get your game on, mutts. Trees do not jimmy-jack around.
