Re: Class of 2017 - TrumpCard - 12-31-2015

Stanford appears to be in the mix for FIVE of the top 25 players in Rivals' 2017 rankings.  Jeffrey Okudah, Darnay Holmes, Wyatt Davis, Davis Mills, and Foster Sarell.  Here's the latest on Okudah:

Wonder who Shaw prefers, Bentley or Davis? I get the impression they are fairly even.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 01-02-2016

No Dylan McCaffrey?  Mills is my choice if not DMac.

Re: Class of 2017 - BostonCard - 01-02-2016

Indeed, Okudah releases his top-10 with Stanford on there.  Kind of a who's who of college football programs.

Re: Class of 2017 - JohnR34231 - 01-03-2016

McCaffrey will probably get an offer if both Bentley and Mills turn us down (which probably won't happen). However by then Dylan may be fully in the arms of Jimmy H.

Wonder if Easy Ed lobbied at all to get Dylan an offer. He may have considered what Harbaugh did with Luck and thought Michigan was just fine.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 01-08-2016

Could Stanford possibly land #1 Safety Okudah and #1 CB Darnay Holmes?

Re: Class of 2017 - BostonCard - 01-12-2016

Scout appears to be down, but this could be a good article about Holmes:

Looks like Stanford versus Georgia for Bentley.

Now THIS is a kid who's doing everything he can to make sure he's admitted to Stanford:

Looks like Bentley hosted a couple of our coaches.

Re: Class of 2017 - TrumpCard - 01-31-2016

Based on the numbers for the 2016 class, it's now abundantly clear that the 2017 class will be small.
Absent attrition, there are 37 open spaces for kids who will start playing in 2016 and 2017 combined.
The 2016 class currently has 24 commits, but 2 are going on a mission, and then we expect Fox to return, so that leaves a net of 23 entering.
Of course, there are 3 more admitted recruits with offers, so that net number could increase up to 26.
That means somewhere between 11-14 spaces, plus any spaces freed by attrition, for recruits entering in 2017.
If you figure that attrition will be in the range of 3-5, it seems there will be roughly 16 spaces for the next class.  That includes Reid and Heimuli, who committed in 2015 and are returning from a mission.
So in the next year, the staff needs to secure LOIs from roughly 14 kids, plus any number who intend to defer for any reason, such as to serve on a mission.
It will be interesting to see how the staff handles recruiting for such a small class.

Re: Class of 2017 - Hurlburt88 - 01-31-2016

I think we have our model from a few years ago when we got 13.  I'll have to review the names to consider the quality level--my first pass thinking is that we can afford to be quite selective.

Re: Class of 2017 - TrumpCard - 02-01-2016

I sure hope the staff does better than it did in 2013.
The current board is extremely promising, but the kids have to get admitted and the staff has to close.

Re: Class of 2017 - BobK - 02-01-2016

If admissions had been favorable very late then we would have filled the class.  Sadly we lost several Very late.
I see 16 for next year or so.  Agree with you trump

Re: Class of 2017 - TrumpCard - 02-01-2016

Bobk, Stanford lost Smythe and who else?  A class of 13 with 4 TEs would have been interesting. What the staff really needed was some beef.

Re: Class of 2017 - kuz - 02-01-2016

Don't think Smythe was an admissions casualty, but I believe the likes of Jordan Cunningham and Xavier Woods were dinged. The latter seems to have ended up being an excellent player at the very least.

Re: Class of 2017 - BobK - 02-01-2016

Cunningham for sure. You guys may be right on the other two mentioned but I think there was another.  Can't to recall.

Interesting about the 2017 class. We already have 3 commits and 2  returning from a mission.  Maybe 16 could be the max size so 11 to go

Re: Class of 2017 - 2 for 2028 - 02-01-2016

Lund might go on mission.
