Re: Class of 2016 - Bruce Wang - 02-14-2015

This has to be an all time high of early offers during the Shaw era. I hope it's because it's an expanding pool of good students and not a change in offer strategy.

Jordan Fuller's brother Devin plays for UCLA:

Old Tappan is also Cory Booker's high school.  So, if he has the academic qualifications, we could have a decent chance to land him.

This would continue the trend of great recruits from Louisiana.  Found this in his Twitter feed:

Malik Antoine @DBNATION2016 work ethic is sick!!! Lean Lean!  4.2 GPA - Ivy League Grades - FBS skill set!  #SUNDAYS

Also, lots of recognition for the Stanford brand among his followers.

Same experience here, though for me it's closer to 2/3 Michigan alums.

FWIW*, here are the players 247's Crystal Ball has going to us:
Malik Antoine (3 predictions, 66% STAN)
Keith Simms (10 predictions: 50% STAN)
Kaden Smith (14 predictions, 57% STAN)
KJ Costello (15 predictions, 53% STAN)
Treyjohn Butler (2 predictions 100% STAN)

* (I believe the prevailing sentiment around here is "not much," but in my experience their problems are more false negatives than false positives.)

Commitment - Cowboy1 - 02-24-2015

Bo Peek, DT, Scout 3 star from Florida commits to Stanford.

He's very big, listed at 6'3" 290lbs on rivals, perfect NT size.

Re: Class of 2016 - washingtonismoney - 02-24-2015

Very solid offer list, with Penn State, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech (and more!) seeking Peek's services.

Re: Class of 2016 - BostonCard - 02-24-2015

A very important pickup (I don't want to tempt fate by using the h-word, though it fits).

Of course, our record recently with very early commits ending up in the final class is spotty at best.  Unfortunately, there has tended to be a larger than average admissions attrition.  But a commit in a position of need, and a position that we have historically struggled to fill, is better than nothing.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 02-24-2015

Congrats to Mr. Peek on the commitment.  I hope he does the work necessary to gain admission, and I look forward to seeing him play for the Cardinal in 18 months or so.  This is a good first step to adding depth at DL.

Okonya is a pretty big-time recruit: offers from Georgia, LSU, Florida, N.D....

No University of Standford?  Very impressed.

Re: How 2016 is shaping up: OLs - TrumpCard - 02-25-2015

Thanks, Hulk!
I think Stanford has a shot with Matt Farniok, too.  Though I can't remember the last Stanford player from South Dakota.
(P.S. I don't consider it a problem if recruiting posts are in the general posts section, especially when the posts are labelled as such.)

Re: Re: How 2016 is shaping up: OLs - TrumpCard - 02-25-2015

Thanks, Hulk!  Peek, Rand and Simms would be nice gets.  I hope they all have the grades/scores.  I haven't seen that info yet.  I don't know if there's any chance with Connor Murphy.  It would be nice to get Trent's "little" brother.  Also, although it's dangerous to call you a pessimistic on any recruiting issues, Stanford may be in a better position with Okonya than you indicated.  He's apparently coming out to Stanford this weekend for Junior Day.

Re: Re: How 2016 is shaping up: OLs - BostonCard - 02-25-2015

Stanford has one of the top petroleum engineering departments (probably the top dept outside of the state of Texas).  They don't offer undergraduate degrees in PE strictly speaking, but they do offer a BS in Energy Resource Engineering, which is the department under which PE is housed.

OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University) is indeed a very good medical school, but it is in Portland, not Eugene, and doesn't have a Div. 1 football team.  UofO does not have a medical school, though of course a medical school is not necessary to obtain the pre-med requirements needed to eventually go to medical school.

I probably should have figured it out from the year 2016, but can you please put these posts in the "Class of 2016" thread where they belong? I clicked hoping for talk about guys on the roster.

I (and presumably other posters) do not come to The Cardboard for blow-by-blow football recruiting analysis. I like this board for many reasons, but I consider it a great plus that with the "Class of xx year" threads I can pretty easily avoid recruiting talk.

Thanks.

No offense to needle, but I just hope this comment doesn't have a chilling effect.  I find Hulk's commentary on recruiting and all things Stanford football to be among the top reasons I visit this site.  I also consider occasionally meandering or misplaced threads a very small price to pay for free content.

Not quite as good a name as Bo Peek, and I am sure one that Steve Frost fears [though once you sound it out, it seems not as bad as it looks].
