We fall 4-1; tough stretch with the midweek loss to Santa Clara and then losing the series to the Trojans.  That’s baseball.

On the plus side, I don’t know why people challenge Montgomery’s arm…

It was a Miss. St. batter who was called out on a very wide pitch.  That umpire was replaced before the next game over the weekend.  The opponent of MIss. St. (UNO) won in a slaughter.  "A replacement umpire was assigned Saturday to the weekend series' second game, which New Orleans won 35-3, surpassing the Privateers' previous record of 32 runs in a game against Northern Illinois in 1994. UNO hit eight home runs Saturday."

Makes me wonder if the strike zone for Miss. St. pitchers in that second game was the size of a postage stamp.

Tough stretch indeed. 

Partly, this sort of thing is going to happen to Stanford when the offense disappears - which it did last week. I hope a lot of that is the lack of Tommy Troy then Drew Bowser. They may not be quite our best hitters, but key cogs and there is a significant drop off in the replacements. 

The pitching has struggled this season. Matthews has been okay but not spectacular. Other guys have had some moments but not been reliable. Versus SC the staff had a 5.00 ERA, just under their season average of 5.08. [Though i'd say a generous scorer's decision in game 2 made 3 extra runs earned.]

Scott's first start was disappointing. It was the first time I was really able to see his pitches. He has a good fastball that comes barreling down on batters, but he needs a better second pitch. Still, he was in okay shape until he got behind their best hitter 3-0 then grooved two fastballs down the middle. I am still hopeful he can be a good starter for us this season. 
Dugan replaced Scott and looked pretty good retiring 8 batters, then suddenly lost the strike zone. He looks a little opposite of Scott in that he seems to have a nice curveball (until it starts missing all the time) but a less intimidating fastball. 
Perhaps the biggest problem with the pitching was 4 errors over the last two games. 

The hitting was rougher. Particularly painful was two strike outs looking with the bases loaded and the game tied in the seventh inning of game 2. Can't do that. 
Hitting does come and go, so hopefully it was just a dry spot. 
Really important to get Troy and Bowser back. I haven't heard anything about their status. I am guessing we'll find out when they trot out for the first inning tomorrow.

Tuned in in time for an Eddie Park grand slam that took Stanford to a 9-3 lead over OSU in a 6-run inning. Then, OSU hits a granny of their own and we’re clinging to a 9-7 lead with one away T7.

Graham stretches his hitting streak to 7 games, upping his BA to .210 (almost his weight in lbs vs kg earlier!), then Montgomery goes oppo for a 2-run bomb and we lead 3-0, B4.

Does anyone happen to have insight on the Bowser ejection? It seemed like a situation where Bowser was frustrated at a combination of things (check swing on strike 2, he certainly had an argument there) but did not throw much of a fit. Seemed like quite an overreaction for the ump to eject him. Does that come with an additional suspension?

TV announcers were saying he was staring at someone on OSU, which is a no-no, but Bowser’s reaction seemed to indicate it wasn’t intentional.
