Bauer is the kind of guy worth the extra years because he is such a fierce competitor who has a relentless drive to be his best and challenge conventional thinking to do it. He's got the intensity of a Verlander or Scherzer or Bumgarner.

I don't know who the Giants would or could trade for Snell, but here's what I do know. They have two potentially legit starters in the minors in Hjelle and Corry. Trevor Bauer would stabilize the rotation for 5-7 seasons. He'd be the best FA Pitcher the Giants have ever signed, superior to Barry Zito and Johnny Cueto.

I don’t doubt his worth.  And I agree, money is not an object.  I just don’t think long term big contract starting pitchers fit Farhan’s plan. Snell is tied up for three years at about 33 Million total.  I could see that. And using prospects as chips is part of the plan, I suspect.  The Dodgers have done that.  While always managing to keep their top prospects.  For the Giants now, I think the “untouchables” are Luciano, Ramos, Bishop, Canario, Corry and either Bart or Bailey (im confident one of the two will eventually be traded).

Just to be contrarian, the best A's of all time?

1B: Jimmie Foxx
2B: Eddie Cocky Collins (notable would be Tony La Russa)
SS: Campy Campaneris
3B: Captain Sal Bando
RF: Reggie Jackson
CF: Rick Monday (simply for the flag incident)
LF: Ricky Henderson
C:  Mickey Cochrane
RP: Catfish Hunter
LP: Lefty Grove (though loved watching Vida pitch)
Relief: Rollie Fingers (Dennis Eckersley, except for one pitch)
DBS: Herb Washington
Nickname: Blue Moon Odom
Manager: Cornelius McGillicuddy

Carney at 3B; and I'm not sure about Monday, especially in CF (did Rickey ever play CF?).
Maybe Joe Rudy.
Who was in LF during Bash Bros?

Travis Jackson besides having one of the great names was a HOFer and McGraw's favorite player. Freddie Lindstrom hit .311 lifetime and is in the HOF. He has to be the third baseman. Fritsch, Jackson, Lindstrom and High Pockets Kelly formed a HOF infield for a few years. Lots of people think that Kelly is the worst member of the HOF.

Who would be the first OF off the bench? There is Monte Irvin, Bobby Thomson, Bobby Bonds and Kevin Pillar.

Probably take Bonds or Jack Clark.

Here's one for you: if the Giants had offered Henry Aaron $50 more per month, Aaron would have been a Giant.

Why is everyone so fixated on the past and so uninterested in discussing the future?

Anyway, the task is signing Trevor Bauer.  And Greg Papa suggested that if the Rays aren't going to use Blake Snell as an Ace, and take him out of the WS while dominating the Dodgers, Farhan Zaidi should be on the horn trying to trade for him.

I started it talking about the off season.  Giant fans love their history.  I’d be stunned if the Giants signed Bauer.  I just don’t see them going for a 5 to 7 year 150 to 200 Million deal for a pitcher.  Agree with Papa.  But what do the Giants give up.  Maybe Bart and Wilson and a lower lever minor leaguer.  Bailey may be better than Bart anyway.....And Luciano is the SS in 22.

A big NO on Bauer.  He is another AJ Pierzynski (a bad actor).  Besides, I read that he is only willing to sign for one season because free agents are going to be low balled this off season.  And, of course, paying free agent pitchers big sums of money doesn’t pan out more often than not (see Cueto/Shark).

I would avoid the free agent market entirely within one exception - a reasonable short term agreement with Gausman.  Stick to the non-tendered guys and minor trades (no to anything that would cost them valued prospects).

Bobby Bonds had demons. I’ll leave it at that.

No all time A’s team without Al Simmons.

Ricky Henderson vs Al Simmons in left is a tough call. Both HOFers. I watched Ricky a lot, electric. What was Al like to watch in person?

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 10-30-2020

LOL come on Phogge what was ole Al like? I take Ricky in LF

Ferris Fain the DH, or better maybe McGuire the DH and Fain the ole Seal at 1B

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 10-30-2020

Bobbbbb and I saw Simmons at the end of his career. Bat magician. Put him in right if you like Ricky better.

OK. Put Ricky in center. Simmons in left, Reggie in right. Monday has no merit.

And Bobbbb you should be ashamed. You are now part of the Revisionist crowd. next thing you know you will be pushing claims that we provoked the Japanese into attacking Pearl and that we shouldn't have entered a European war. I suppose you think Armstrong climbed down the ladder in a Nevada warehouse, that Harpo Marx shot the Archduke, that Garbo was really John Gilbert in drag and makeup and that Pope Pius X killed Virginia Rappe.

I should have beaten you up every day in the Seals bleachers and not just on Saturday. Geesh.

Throwing this in here, A J Hinch is the new Tiger Manager

Friday nights I always won, take that Phogge LOL

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 10-30-2020

Bobbbb, I felt guilty the time I took Luke Easter's home run ball away from you. If you remember I accompanied you to the Emergency mini-hospital next to Kezar Pavilion after our fight. I had three stitches, you had five. My first run in with SFPD. There would be a couple more.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 10-30-2020

My stitches were 2 on my left fist 3 on my right fist. Lol. Lol

Started with the A's in KC, then Oakland, was a Cub when he saved the flag at Dodger Stadium, and finished as a Dodger.

He was the first player ever drafted. Not by the Armed Forces, many heroes preceded, but in the MLB amateur draft.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 10-30-2020

Thank you for both. Yes 1965 the first baseball draft

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - cardcrimson - 10-30-2020

Monday's act was just a few years after the end of the Vietnam War and Watergate in a country still very divided. That said, listen to the indignation in Vin Scully's voice that somebody would burn an American Flag. Monday, a Cub, got praise from the scoreboard operatora standing ovation from the Dodger crowd, and according to Monday, the crowd spontaneously started singing God Bless America. The next day, the Illinois State Legislature voted to proclaim a "Rick Monday Day" on his behalf.

Stunning how much has changed since then.
