Frank Robinson.

Pretty sure one of them is Mickey Mantle.    Willy Mays, Bob Gibson and Roger Maris must be around that time but not sure.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 04-17-2026

Mantle debuted 1951 :). Mays also 1951

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - terry - 04-17-2026

Frank Robinson is correct! Robinson started in left field for Cincinnati and went 2 for 3 in his major league debut on April 17, 1956.

As Bob noted, Mays and Mantle first appeared in the majors in 1951. Maris had his debut in 1957, Gibson in 1959.

The other two HOF players who first appeared in the majors on the same day as Robinson were an infielder and a pitcher.

Brooks Robinson or Luis Aparicio??
Drysdale or Koufax??

Luis Aparicio and Don Drysdale are correct! Both made their debut on April 17, 1956, the same day as Frank Robinson.

Aparicio started at shortstop for the White Sox and went 1 for 3. Drysdale pitched a scoreless 9th for the Dodgers, allowing no hits and a walk.

Robinson is also the only HOFer to be intentionally walked in their first MLB game.

What about the three other major sports?

WAGs...

MLB...Rockies
NBA...Hornets would be my guess.
NFL...New York Jets...I think this was a question a few weeks ago.
NHL...Winnipeg Jets. I'll stick with the Jets. Maybe the Canadiens.

Clarification, I’m looking for the longest active streak, not the longest drought.  Toronto had the longest streak but imploded and missed out on the playoffs this year, so they no longer have the longest active streak.  Who does?

Colorado is one of two NHL teams who have made the playoffs every year since 2018.  Anyone hazard a guess on who they share the streak with?  Also, MLB, NBA, and NFL streaks?

As for the WInnipeg Jets, they had actually made the playoffs three straight years before missing them this year.

NHL - the other team: Carolina?
NBA, NFL - no clue

Back to Terry. Luis Aparico No clue on the third

Dodgers is right (sorry all).  They’ve made the playoffs every year since 2013.
NHL, you have the right region, but not the Carolina Hurricanes, who have made the playoffs every years since the 2018/19 season.

NFL would have been the Chiefs but they missed out last season.

Ok, in honor of Stanford’s 50th straight year with a national title, this question: in ehat sport was Stanford’s first national championship in the streak?

WAG since it was before I matriculated to The Farm:

Men's water polo?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Leftcoast - 04-19-2026

Men’s water polo!

Not that I have any firm memories but the victory (over UCLA) was highlighted in the USA Today article on Stanford’s streak

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 04-19-2026

Yes, it was men’s water polo, who won on Nov. 28, 1975, which happened to be my first birthday.
