Not sports but... How many coronations have taken place in Great Britain since the death of Victoria?

From memory, I think she died in 1901.  There was her immediate successor, then I think George VI, then Edward because what's-his-name stepped down to visit with Nazis and bed an American twice-divorcee, then Elizabeth.  So....four?  Because Charles hasn't had his yet?

By sheer happenstance, I was working for one of the Big Four when I had to travel to London.  I distinctly recall two things about the trip: we saw Les Miserables on the same night that England defeated Germany in the Euro Cup, their first major victory over Germany in 35 years.  The Javert character came out, took a bow, and held up a sign that read: "England  1" and the Valjean character took his bow and held up a sign that read: "Germany   0" and the theater just erupted. I told Mrs. Mick "We're not getting a cab home tonight." We walked out of the theater and the first person we saw was a naked man running down the sidewalk wearing only an English flag as a cape.  We hoofed it the 1.2 miles back to our Hyde Park hotel.

The second interesting occurrence was that it was Queen Elizabeth's golden Jubilee.  We stood with the rest of the 1,000,000+ gawkers as the British royal family paraded by in amazingly open horse-drawn carriages and a few Jaguars. The lack of security was interesting, to say the least. The RAF's Red Arrows (BAE Hawks, I think) did a flypast (similar to USA Blue Angels doing a flyover).  They were really high up, maybe 3,000 feet...depends on the venue, but their performance altitude is usually 1,000 to 4,000.  Entertaining, but I preferred the F-18s flying over Stanford Stadium at around...500 feet, I think?

Victoria's son, Albert (Bertie) who became Edward VII.

George V

George VI (Bertie)

Elizabeth II

Four is correct but Edward VIII stepped down before coronation.

My father, a child of 7, attended a Canadian funeral for Edward VII in 1910.

Texas A&M dropped from 6 to 24 in this week’s AP Poll.  The 18 place fall tied a modern era AP Poll record (since 1968) for most precipitous drop in one week.   What school was previously the solo holder of the record of 18?

Note: The school also dropped from 6 to 24 (in 2009).

not the answer to your question but ND dropped from #8 to #36 (in others receiving votes) this week so down 28 places, but even going from #8 to unranked is a drop of 18 places...

We have a winner…

California (after losing to Oregon 42-3).

82lsju - I should written, “ …most precipitous drop WHILE REMAINING RANKED in one week”.

I just looked it up.  USC only dropped from #2 to #10 after the greatest upset ever.  They wound up finishing the year #3.
