Demetris Robertson reportedly taking an OV to Ca.l this weekend.  Ca.l fans peeing their pants.

If we don't get him it will be a tremendous loss

Does the fact this kid is an artist, taking an AP Art class, augur well for Stanford admission?

Depends on what medium he's working with.  If it's wood, then yes.

Personally, I'd rather have him take classes that would augur well, but to each his own, I suppose.

You know what I meant.  I don't mind being corrected, but how about answering the question or saying nothing?

I'm right with you OF. It would be nice if smug spell checkers would actually recognize that they understand the meaning of the post and engage on the content.

Quite obviously you DO mind being corrected.  And if you think Roberton3 was commenting in order to "show off", you're wrong.  Some people just like to be playful with words.  I, for one, will try to remember that you and FarmBoy take such light-hearted input personally.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 09-29-2015

Anyone else think Jeffrey McCulloch is a real possibility for this class?

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 09-29-2015

If anyone out there knows more about August offer recipients Keaton Bills and Tangaloa Kaufusi, please post.  Both are a bit under the radar, though Bills does have an offer from Wisconsin.  I think Stanford wants both of them for defense and expects them both to take a mission, so they will have a couple of extra years to fill out their frames.  Hopefully, they won't be stationed in West Africa...

What are Stanford's chances at landing these two?

Really, I DON'T mind being corrected as long as the intent of the post is addressed at the same time.

I think it is an unknowable question, though all else being equal, indications that someone is enrolled in an AP class is a positive indicator. Does the fact that by being an artist and taking AP Art that he is breaking stereotypes about football players count more than if, for example, he were enrolled in AP History, I don't know.  I do think it is neat, and this from someone who is as un-artistic as one can be.

BC, are you an old fart provincialist? Like me?  My freshman year in Cedro, Wilbur, during one of our first dorm bull sessions, someone said something and I said that was "neat."  Instant laughs and ridicule from the Preppies (who predominated.). I was taken aback and have tried to avoid that word ever since.  But, neat that you used it.

So Robertson visited Notre Dame (and has not yet visited us), but we are still leading, despite him not having visited yet.  I think if he's admitted he comes.

Re: Class of 2016 - socalstanfan1 - 09-30-2015

My guess would be Robertson is already sold on Stanford, and is waiting to use his OV for the Big Visit of the commits in January.  Though if he visits Cal he can certainly swing by and visit Stanford, unless doing so violates some rule of official visits. (Double-dipping on one official visit to see a second school; I could see the NCAA creating some rule against that.)

This is exactly my question.  Robertson has yet to visit Stanford.  If you were in his shoes, with Stanford as your top choice, and you hadn't yet visited the campus, wouldn't you feel quite compelled to visit Stanford on your trip the the Bay Area to see Berkeley?  I'm not sure the NCAA is sophisticated enough or runs into this situation enough with other schools, that it wouldn't allow "double dipping" visits, but i have no idea.

Perhaps it would be construed as bad form on the part of Ca.l, but don't you have to feel confident standing on your own merits in these situations?  I mean, shouldn't Ca.l welcome Robertson checking out Stanford?  Maybe he doesn't like it, or even if he does, it's best to know where you stand ASAP in recruiting, isn't it?  I don't think Stanford ever refuses to let a recruit take other trips.  In fact, Stanford may encourage it.  Perhaps see David Long?

Thank you, Cornfed.  You're absolutely right -- I was attempting to be funny.

One of the things I love about this board is the way people here play with language.  But evidently not everyone agrees.  I'll be a bit more careful in the future.

I enjoy the word play, too, but mainly when it's clever, funny or both.  For example, th auger/augur one was pretty lame IMHO, while the Death Chart was worthy of it's own thread.  If the sole point of a post is to point out a minor misspelling or typo that doesn't materially change the meaning, what's the point.  On the other hand, it doesn't seem worth getting too offended about.  Pendants gotta be pedantic.
