RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-23-2026

The two semis tomorrow, both at 8am:

Texas v. USC
Stanford v. UCLA

Winners meet in the championship at 10:15.  All on BTN.
ETA:  I hope BTN has better cameras and placements than B1G+; that was pretty bad.
(Need to cancel my subscription now.)

Stanford is 2-1 against UCLA this year, winning 3-2 twice on neutral courts, losing 1-4 at UCLA in between.

Recap of today's win:  https://gostanford.com/news/2026/04/23/no-2-stanford-tops-no-5-usc-advances-to-mpsf-semifinals

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-23-2026

Bad news:
I checked the BTN schedule (on my cable and on their website) and it shows B10 Lacrosse Friday morning at 8:00am.

The semifinals are listed at 3:00pm PT with the championship is 4:30pm PT. So they are on BTN, but not live!?

The MPSF page lists a bigtenplus link for live video tomorrow, too.

Very disappointing and confusing.

My guide (DIRECTV) shows the semifinals at 8am and the final at 10am on 610 BTNHD.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - PVTree - 04-23-2026

It's odd that the #1 and #2 seeds meet in the semis. Did the Ruins lose and had to make their way through the consolation bracket?

Yup.  UCLA lost to Texas, 1-3. Then beat Cal, 3-0.

According to posts on VolleyTalk, the Big Ten Lacrosse tournament got rescheduled due to weather, and that takes precedence on BTN. So MPSF Beach Volleyball will be shown delayed, this afternoon on BTN.  And I guess live on B1G+.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Spiny_Norman - 04-24-2026

Stanford lost to UCLA which then lost to Texas for the MPSF conference championship. What does that mean for NCAA seeding - 1. UCLA, 2. Stanford,
3. Texas?? Stanford is 3-0 in head-to-head matches vs. Texas this year so should be seeded ahead of them.

Let's remember that Stanford won the MPSF championship last year and took (we thought) a lot of momentum into the NCAA tournament. Where they got blitzed by Cal Poly in the quarterfinals.

Spiny! Don't start off with "Stanford lost to LoseCLA". When we're awaiting the results of today's matchup between the 2.

Sorry, the match happened 8 hours ago. I guess I did not realize that everyone was waiting for the BTN replay.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-24-2026

Not sure what the NCAA will do with the seeding.  Stanford, Texas and UCLA should be the top three, but what order?  Even with the head-to-head results, you could argue Texas #1, UCLA #2, Stanford #3.  FSU should also be in the top 4, followed by USC and Cal Poly.

We'll find out at 10:00am Sunday.
Sixteen teams, single elimination.  First round on Friday, May 1st (ESPN2).  Quarter and semis on Saturday (ESPN2); championship on Sunday (ESPN).

They called it the BTN Premiere on the ticker. Lol

I'm glad I'm not the one that will be trying to seed the tournament.

That's an odd way for the NCAA to list the seedings. UCLA, Texas, TCU, and LMU all on the other side of the bracket. Rematch of last year's final in the first round.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-26-2026

Yep, weird.

Anyway, Stanford gets #16 UT-Chattanooga to start (9:00am), and then either Cal or Long Beach (7:00am PDT!  I hope the team is acclimated by then).
Seems OK.
Then, if the seeds hold, USC in the semis.  Might be rooting for FSU in that quadrant.

I mean tactics aside, rooting against UsC is not only allowed, it is encouraged!

I thought it was mandatory, except in the very few cases of equal evils, in which case Stadium Collapse or the Sweet Meteor of Death are preferred.

That was a great interview - especially toward the end where he shared his perspectives on his role as coach in the greater scheme of the program/department, and on his recruiting philosophy. Thanks for sharing!

I believe all NCAA tournament matches are on ESPN2.
