I think this Shaw tweet just might be directed at a particular recruit, for example:
"Their education is almost as good as Stanford's? When is almost enough for a true competitor? 3 BCS in a row, #1 education in D1 #gostanford"

And just below Coach Shaw's tweet you can find the obligatory ND fan's inaccurate statement.

The Domer forgot their #1 ranking in metriculation matriculation regret.

Metriculation?  You mean they've marked their field in meters instead of yards?

(Sorry.  I couldn't resist.)

No need to apologize.  I've learned to appreciate the grammar and spelling police around here.  It makes this place the most readable of forums on the internet.

If this is the case, then Peppers' comments about Michigan are all based on only having half the information he needs.  He'll get out to Palo Alto, maybe meet Condaleezza if she's available, meet some of his possible future professors and teammates (might not be a bad idea to have him connect with Josh Garnett, who chose us over Michigan, despite being urged by a friend to go to Ann Arbor), meet Derek Mason who specializes in training DBs, get a taste of early summer in California.  If he goes to Michigan after all of that, well, then he really isn't a Stanford guy, and there should be no moaning about it.  Move on to finding the next great DB for us to develop.

It's all about the team, the team, the team.

But it sure would be nice for him to verbal to Stanford.

He already met Derek Mason.  According to 24/7 sports, both Mason and Kotulski visited Peppers on April 15.  I hope he can visit before the students leave to get a sense for Stanford's amazing spring and the energy that students bring.  We had some big recruits visit last summer and they probably only saw tourists and grad students.

Anyone want to take a crack at decoding this cryptic tweet from the Stanford football account?

"Keep it 100 #cardclass14"

Typically if you have no clue what the tweet means, it's some sort of commitment. So, maybe?

Re: Class of 2014 - pauloalto - 05-18-2013

my urban dictionary says "keep it 100" means "keep yourself real and true"

Re: Class of 2014 - stan01 - 05-18-2013

TE Dalton Schultz (our number 1 TE target) is visiting Stanford this weekend.  Commit Brandon Simmons is also back for another visit.

I think this is a new feature.  Haven't seen it before.

Re: Alabama eyeing Chryst - Bruce Wang - 05-23-2013

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/05/pivotal_camp_for_alabama_quart.html

I thought this sentence from the article was interesting:

"The several quarterbacks offered by Alabama this spring cannot accept those offers until Nick Saban sees them throw in person this summer."

I know this is the Stanford pot calling the Alabama kettle black, in the "Offers that aren't really offers" department.  Our excuse, however, is much more legitimate.

Looks like Jabrill Peppers verbally committed to Michigan :(

really not a big loss as he was a longshot to get admitted. He would have had to retake the SAT and probably do much better, take 2 AP classes and get B's, write some great essays, and probably put the rap career on hold. I think he realized he can coast the rest of the way and get to the NFL after 3 years at Michigan. Stanford isn't for everyone.

If, in fact, the recent events with Everett Golson at Notre Dame are related to academics, that should serve as a reminder of Young Money's point: if your school takes academics seriously, and the player isn't ready to handle those requirements, best not to go down that road in the first place.

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 05-26-2013

The "didn't have the academics" is sometimes true, but sometimes an excuse. I think it's the latter here. We got outrecruited, plan and simple.

Do you have any basis for saying that?  I don't see any.  It's pretty clear that Shaw and his staff are very good at recruiting.  So I really doubt that they messed this up.  But even if you do everything right when recruiting, you won't get every kid, and that's probably more true at Stanford than it is other places, just because Stanford is so unusual when compared to other schools playing top-notch football.  For some kids, it's the best place in the world for them to go.  And for others, it's not -- and when one of them chooses to go elsewhere, that doesn't necessarily mean "we got outrecruited."  It could just mean that the kid is a better fit somewhere else.  And as long as that's what it is (and I see no evidence to suggest it isn't), that's OK.

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 05-27-2013

I agree, even if it seems like Peppers fits in better at Michigan I still think he would have picked Stanford if he had been a lock to get in. I don't see how we got outrecruited.
