RE: Class of 2026+ - old spanish trail - 01-19-2026

Is there another portal in spring? Who is in the QB room right now?

RE: Class of 2026+ - BobK - 01-19-2026

Players can still sign with a team if they were in the portal

Right, but is there another portal in spring? I think the answer is no, but...
Also, is there a time limitation on when guys can sign who are in recent portal?
And, who is in QB room? Riscz, Mich transfer, and Mike Mitchell. Is that it?

RE: Class of 2026+ - PalmTree - 01-20-2026

247 shows 5th yr OLB/Edge Wilfredo Aybar withdrew from the portal yesterday.

Great news about Aybar

On the qb front, Fernando Mendoza's younger brother Alberto, who backed him up at Indiana went into the portal today and is showing Stanford interest, along with Duke and Georgia Tech.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Brown. I hope he decides to stay.

Yikes - Mensah trying to skip out of an NIL deal reportedly worth $4M in year 2 for even greener pa$tures$

He's reportedly ticketed for Miami

Duke is suing to keep him from transferring.

At this point, where you have multi-year contracts, there is now no difference from professional football.

If we only have the 3 QBs, we'll need to get another one (or two) over the next 5 months.

Any stud QBs coming back from a Mormon mission this summer that we can poach from another school?

Sure there is - there are many!
  • No collective bargaining agreement
  • "NIL Agents," many of whom are family members, taking 20+% (vs. 3-5%) and giving barely-legal adults awful advice because there is no fiduciary standard
  • Continued adherence to academic calendars (...somehow)
  • Professional football actually has restrictions on free agency

Appreciate your thoughts.  I would say that if the ones you list, only the adherence to an academic calendar is an intrinsic differentiator.  The NFL has collective bargaining agreements, but they didn’t prior to 1968; you would not argue that the league only became professional with the first CBA.  Likewise agents preying on clients is as old as sliced bread.  The differences have arisen from the rapid pace of professionalization; they don’t make college not a pro league.

The other one to add to your list is that college still clings to the idea of eligibility, which is not a thing in the pros.  As long as age hasn’t stolen your ability to produce, you can keep playing in the NFL.

But of course recent lawsuits could chip away at this distinction.

New transfer commit: WR Nico Brown, brother of Marcus Brown: https://x.com/mzenitz/status/2014098434043642264

Was an All-American at Yale last year.

RE: Class of 2026+ - old spanish trail - 01-26-2026

Elijah Brown to Wash. Are we looking for a QB to fling passes to Nico Brown?

Two reasons We don’t take those who are now Jrs or Srs and admissions.

Sounds concerning
Was Mendoza II our shot and we missed?
Do we even have enough QBs to practice next year?
Any other graduates there beyond the Michigan one?

Other than that, we all better hope that Mike Mitchell is the next Okorie surprise

One of them
Yes
3 of our 6 are grad transfers

Niki Prongos, Leroy Bryant, Dara Adeyemi were "now juniors" when they transferred here, so that's wrong.
