Quinn Mathews retired the first 10 Giants he faced and no- hit them through 5 innings in the Cardinals 2-1 win. Final line was 6.2 innings, 4 hits, 1 run(earned), 2 BBs, 4 Ks - and his 2nd MLB win!

Nah. The Giants have long been eliminated from playoff contention, so the Giants winning gets nothing… Quinn MATHEWS winnings, on a 4 hitter, OTOH, is great.

I was at Petco Park last night for the Padres v. Marlins. Stowers batted leadoff and went 0 for 5, incl. the game ending double play in the 9th. He did look like he was enjoying the moment, I'm guessing he had some family and friends in attendance as he went to high school nearby in El Cajon. This might've been his first MLB game in San Diego as a Marlin.
The streaking Padres won 8-2.

Stowers hit his 20th homer, at Wrigley. Marlins beat the Cubs. Hoerner has just 2 XBH all month.
Edman, who's played in only 80 games, also homered tonight, his 8th. We all know what he can do in the postseason!

Stowers homered for the second straight night, Marlins upset the Cubs.
Tawa had a great catch in center and later homered to keep the DBacks alive.
Edman had an RBI for the second straight night, Dodgers lost to SD.
Montgomery was 3 for 4 but the ChiSox lost and are still behind Cleve for the AL Central.
Should be a great final weekend for the regular season!

Former LSJU players in the MLB playoffs include Edman, Hoerner, B. Montgomery.
Also - Kris Bubic is back. After 4 months on the IL, he made 5 relief appearances for the Dodgers this month, 4.2 innings, 0 runs, 4 hits.

Hoerner broke up the Padres no-hitter in the 7th. Had another hit in the 9th. Cubs lost 8-0.
Montgomery had 2 hits in the ChiSox win.
Miller faced three Yankees batters. One he got out, one got a single and the other batter was Rice, who homered.

Montgomery had the game-winning hit for the ChiSox, a 2-RBI opposite field double down the right field line in the 6th. Shades of Buster Posey. He then scored on a single. ChiSox can close out the series in game 3.

No longer a player, but Sam Fuld, who is President of Business Operations for the Phillies reportedly turned down being President of the A’s

Fuld was previously the GM for the Phillies, went to Wharton and got an MBA, and is the heir apparent to become president of baseball operations when Dave Dombroski, who is 70, retires.

I'd like to see former Stanford Cardinal Cal Quantrill (110 innings, 2.86 ERA) join SF Giants rotation. I think he can be had for $6 mms. to $8 mms., per this writer.
4 lower-cost free agents who fit the SF Giants perfectly
It would be nice to get ex-Stanford Cardinal Eric Miller back as well. Boston has his rights.

Meanwhile, I think Edman and Bubic are the last LSJU players still in the postseason? And LA is down 0-2.
B. Montgomery and ChiSox coughed up a 2-0 ALDS lead to Cleveland.
How about a Tampa/Cleveland v Milwaukee matchup for the World Series. Not exactly marquee teams but good baseball.

Montgomery hit .226 in the regular season and .130 in the post-season. He struck out 12 times in 23 at bats in the playoffs. But the Cleveland pitching overwhelmed a lot of his teammates too.
