Among the big names, Yamamoto, Chapman, Bellinger would be a dream scenario. Add a backup catcher, a reliever or two and I believe it could be called a very successful off-season.
Bellinger is - and honestly should be - the #1 Yankees target. Short porch RF in Yankee stadium will be tough to turn down.
I'd like to be alive when the Giants beat the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, and/or Phillies for a top of market Free Agent they all covet.
MLBtraderumors (a great site) has posted their free agency predictions (always well-researched and frequently correct, particularly regarding the biggest names). As an aside, their arbitration-eligible player salary estimates are uncannily accurate.
SF received two votes (out of three) for Bellinger and the Yanks one.
The Yanks received two votes for Yamamoto and SF one.
I would agree. I think the Giants have a better shot at Bellinger (I believe Yamamoto is New York’s big target this year).
Note: Ohtani to the Dodgers was a unanimous choice. Is there any doubt?

Third Base Coach - Matt Williams
Hitting Coach - Pat "The Bat" Burrell
Williams played 11 seasons for the Giants (1986-1996), 4x all star, 3x Gold Glove, 3x Silver Slugger, 6th in NL MVP vote in 1990, 2nd in 1994 NL MVP vote.
Burrell retired in 2011, won a WS with the Giants in 2010, hit 292 HRs, career .834 OPS. 2012-15, special assignment scout for SFG, hitting coach for Low-A SJ Giants. Attended high school in So Bay at Bellarmine, played in college at Miami, 10 years with Philly. Bellarmine influence should mean a World Series Championship next year... ;)
Justin Viele, who served as hitting coach for Kapler will return as co-hitting coach with Burrell. Pedro Guerrero will return as assistant hitting coach. Former director of hitting Dustin Lind was let go.
Ryan Christenson spent 16 seasons in the A's organization as a minor league manager and a bench coach on Melvin's major league staff.
Hallberg, who coached third base last season, will coach first base this season.

Former Cincy manager Bryan Price has been mentioned as possible pitching coach. Also Vogelsong could be on staff in some capacity.
Williams should be a big help to Marco Luciano. Luciano has had trouble hitting off speed stuff. certainly not uncommon for a young player. It’s something that Williams went through in his first couple years with the Giants. He could always hit the fastball, but he struggled mightily with offspeed pitches. Also, Williams defensive history fits pretty well with Luciano. Originally a shortstop with somewhat limited range that ultimately pushed him to third base. Just guessing, but I think Williams will see a lot of himself in Luciano and can help him particularly on the mental side of the game.

Bryan Price has been confirmed as pitching coach and Garvin Alston as bullpen coach. Price managed Cincy from 2014 to 2018 with a 279-387 record. He was a successful pitching coach with the Mariners, Diamondbacks and Reds from 2000 to 2013. He worked with the Padres last year. Alston was the pitching coach at AAA Sacramento for the past three years and received rave reviews from the pitchers there. Hjelle and Stanford alum Tristan Beck both publicly lauded Garvin Alston.

The only member of the coaching staff of whom I was unaware is Taira Uematsu, the first full-time MLB coach born and raised in Japan. He's spent his career with the Giants, was hired by Sacto in 2006, and has been a bullpen catcher/medical assistant on Kapler's staff (he studied kinesiology in college).

The owner of the San Diego Padres died today. He was the guy who was willing to spend above their means to get San Diego a championship. The Padres had to take out a $50M loan to meet payroll in September. They are going to reduce their payroll and hard to imagine the new owner won't want to make money off the team. Sorry Padres fans, the "we're going all in to win" era is over for you.
This means the Padres will not be a player in the Ohtani sweepstakes and they will be trading Juan Soto before he becomes a UFA at age 26 after the '24 season. The question is do they trade him before the season or during?

Per published reports, the team will remain under the ownership of the Seidler family. I don’t see much change on the horizon other than the previously announced desire to reduce the payroll to $200 million (which may require dealing Soto - we shall see)…..

The Giants need to be involved with everyone. Their previous fixation on a single superstar was a costly mistake. It took them out of the running for other stars and left them no option other than shopping on the damaged goods aisle.
Signing Chapman would be a great way to start the ball rolling….

Mike Trout may be available in trade. He was incredible, best player in baseball from 2012 through 2019. Then he turned 28. He's had one great year since then. He used to play every game. Now, he's a half-time player. Still a great hitter, while he is in the game.
He's 32 now, and owed $222 million over six years, give or take. Ohtani will be leaving. I imagine the Angels would like to trade him. Last yeawr, he had the lowest batting average of his career (.263), lowest OBP outside of his 19 year old year at .367, and lowest slugging average, by far outside of his rookie year. Lowest OPS, but still .858. He played 82 games last year, 119 the year before, 89 combined the two years before that.

And speaking of Ohtani (who should be named MVP today), Bleacher Report is listing that the Dodgers are a heavy, heavy favorite, and that he has an affinity for the Dodgers, the Rangers and the Red Sox.
The Brewers are likely to trade star pitcher Corbin Burnes (3.39 ERA, 10-8, struck out 200 for third consecutive season, led NL with 1.069 WHIP). Orioles, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Rangers...and the Giants...are listed by The Athletic as target teams for Burnes. TA is positing the Giants would have to let go of three prospects, including Whisenhunt, Pomares and Velasquez.

Hopefully, we'll need to be very careful about salary, given the free agents we hope to get.

Supposedly Ohtani prefers the West Coast, point in favor of Giants.
Checked on Ohtani's batting splits. He's 0 for 8 at Oracle Park, literally his worst hitting performance among all the MLB ballparks. Statistically, it's very hard for lefties to hit home runs at Oracle. Does very well at Dodger Stadium, even better at Rangers ballpark.

Sign Yamamoto, Gray, Lee or Bellinger and Chapman.
As far as a Ohtani, they separate themselves from the pack by offering about 50 million more than anybody else. And I don’t think they’ll do that.
