RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Phogge - 11-09-2020

Keck lost the edge a couple of times. Depth on defense close to non-existent.

Totally agree re Keck. Recognition and reaction both slow, and he was stuck in molasses when rb juked him. Where is Andres Fox? He's 3rd on the ol depth? Injured last year, but I thought he looked really good in year one.

Andres had ~20 snaps and 3 tackles. Looked solid in his limited action. (And I'm not sure why said action was limited.)

No Tobe Umerah - who is supposedly healthy? - was more alarming IMO.

I noticed that, too. What's up with no Tobe Umerah?

Starter changes marked for the Colorado game.

  • QB: Davis Mills, sr., for Jack West, jr.
  • WR: Connor Wedington, sr., for Simi Fehoko, jr. There are actually three WR starters listed on the depth chart. I'm marking what I assume to be the top two. I don't know why they list three, unless it is to pacify such a big position group, or perhaps because they intend on consistently playing three WR.
  • CB: Kyu Blu Kelly, so. for STM, so.
  • Obviously, I removed the injured designation from Mills, Wedington, and Kelly.
  • I noted Wedington as the kick returner, and Michael Wilson as the punt returner.
  • I also noted Ryan Sanborn as the holder, and Jet Toner as handling kick-offs. Wonder why it is Toner if he is injured?

-m.

I think we our most common offensive personnel package is 11.

Toner is not injured. He just had an awful game.

LOL. I thought it was funny that they listed 12 starters, too. That's why I wonder if they listed three WR starters to make Simi Fehoko feel better.

Thanks for the correction. I thought I had heard somewhere that he was still injured from last year.

In case it wasn't apparent, I meant the personnel package (1 RB, 1 TE, and thus 3 WR), not the number of players on offense.  Really, we use the fullback on a fraction of our plays, and thus it is probably more appropriate to name a third wide receiver as a starter than to name our FB.

Yeah; I know. We actually have more often used two TE over one FB, too. I was just pointing out the fact that in the sheet, it lists 12 starters on offense. We've never listed like that before.

We haven't done a lot with FB since maybe ... Ryan Hewitt? Daniel Marx?

Bench Bunch. The following non-injured non-frosh scholarship players did not appear against the Ducks. Some of these players may have been injured; please let me know if so and I will designate them as such in the chart. I've heard that OSB and Umerah were injured? Somewhat surprised that there was no appearance by DiCosmo. [Have now moved OSB, Umerah, and DiCosmo to injured list for Ducks game.]

M*A*S*H Unit. The following players did not appear against the Ducks due to injury or COVID protocol.
Frosh Force. Six true freshmen played against the Ducks. None recorded any statistics unless noted.
As always, I welcome your input or correction.

Filkins would be great out of the wildcat. An excellent runner and also a pretty decent arm.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - MVDan - 11-13-2020

Stanford has announced that Davis Mills, Connor Wedington, and Trey LaBounty will be available to play against Colorado.

Injury/Covid comments:

Osiris St. Brown also did not appear, and I'm 99% sure he's not injured. My theory is he's the mysterious fourth player discussed in Stanford's Covid statement, and if so will be back for tomorrow's game.

Aeneas DiCosmo was banged up for Oregon and is now practicing again. My guess is he'd probably play over Spencer Jorgensen who ended up coming in when Miezan/Damuni went down.

Tobe Umerah was also banged up for Oregon, and my guess is he also would've played - he was listed on the depth chart for a reason. He's listed as "unlikely" for Colorado, so may be another couple weeks (no real idea). Hoping we see him sooner rather than later. We need the OLB help.

I think you're right on the money re: freshmen. Notably, Yurosek and Humphreys played a couple offensive snaps each in addition to STs. Filkins just on STs. I couldn't get a good look to see if any other freshmen got in on STs, but my guess is there's not much room there as former walk-ons like Thunder Keck, Spencer Jorgensen, Brycen Tremayne, and Noah Williams all got their schollies in part by becoming ST mainstays. Houston Heimuli and Jay Symonds both play a ton of STs too.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 11-13-2020

Thanks, SMF. I had OSB and Umerah and DiCosmo among the "Bench Bunch." I will move them to the injured list for the Duck's game...

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 11-18-2020

Walk-On Union Watch. Four non-scholarship players got PT against the Buffs. In addition...

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 11-18-2020

Bench Bunch. The following non-injured non-frosh scholarship players did not appear against the Buffs.
Sanders was out there for a wildcat play, but got a delay of game penalty before he could get the play off. Then Mills came back in. So Sanders did not make an official appearance.

M*A*S*H Unit. The following players did not appear against the Buffs due to injury or COVID protocol.
Note that I removed Davis Mills, Connor Wedington, Trey LaBounty, Gabe Reid, and Kyu Blu Kelly from injury denotation, though LaBounty did not play, so his removal is only a guess based on his situation being similar to Mills and Wedington being removed from COVID protocol. The fact that OSB remains out begs some questions as to his absence.

I also moved Gabe Reid from OLB to ILB; this was surprising to me, not because we don't lack need at that position, but because I did not know Reid had skill set to play that position. I always thought of him as a pass rush specialist.

As always, I welcome your input or corrections.

RE: 2020 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 11-20-2020

Frosh Force. Six true freshmen played against the Buffs. None recorded any statistics unless noted.
One quick note on listing true freshmen. I have, so far, not denoted on the chart "redshirt games played" - meant to indicate progression towards burning their redshirt - because, as I understand it, this season does not count toward anyone's eligibility. If that is true, it will make for a weird chart next season; not sure how to handle that yet.

As always, I welcome your input or correction.
