Robinson delivers!

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - d4cohn - 06-03-2019

Robinson!! (Not at the buzzer this time :)

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BobK - 06-03-2019

Stowers drafted in the 2nd Round during the pitching change as he’s on deck waiting. Perfect

Would have been perfect if he didn't hit a weak grounder to first to end the rally. . . .

We are only up 9-5 in the bottom of the fifth, with a man on third, and Grech in.  That lead does not seem safe.  Whoever said “first to double digits may underestimate what it will take to win”.

As BC hits post it’s 9-7

Beck coming in to pitch three days after throwing 101 pitches. I hate to see this. Give the ball to someone like Rudd who has seen some action and done well. You’re just asking for the kid to need Tommy John surgery.

And I thought a run an inning was an incredibly high pace in making that statement.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BostonCard - 06-03-2019

Yup, as I feared. The lead was cut to 9-7, after 5.

Yeah, looks like this one is going down to the wire.

Fresno starting to time up Beck with two loud, long outs back to back to straight center. Both on pitch count
and timing up his pitches, he might be approaching a pitch limit.

However, Card still take a 2 run lead to T8.

After Robinson had some words with the FSU catcher as he was running to first on his 2nd 2 RBI double,
he gets drilled in the elbow, first pitch next at bat. Hmm... That looks pretty intentional to me.

Sure have to hope that big missed opportunity doesn't come back to bite us. Two runners in scoring
position with no outs, and we can't get either across.

OK we still hold the two run lead going into the 9th. Need three more outs.
Looks like the fans are getting their money's worth.

Yes! On to the super regional!

Nice to see the toughness to go through the loser’s bracket to win it.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - d4cohn - 06-03-2019

Congrats to the team on their comeback in this regional and tonight. It wasn't pretty,
but we advance out of our regional, which is way better than the last two years.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - Canalejas - 06-03-2019

On to Starkville!

All Right Now!  Three in a row digs us out of the hole and we finally advance!

We seem to play a lot of very long games.

Some of the high/lowlights:
  • Stowers almost leads off with a HR
  • We score in every one of the first 6 innings
  • Miller is terrific through 3
  • Two bad ump calls - at home and the catch in the outfield
  • Two bad errors by our infield ends the night for Miller
  • Why did the FSU batter in the middle of his at bat go talk to his coach for about a minute (why did the umps allow it)?
  • During a Stanford at bat, the FSU infielders seemed to have a problem with the umps. Was there something commented on TV about this?
  • Strong 3 inning relief from Little. He may only have 1 inning in him for tomorrow
  • I'm guessing Beck will be ready for some 3 innings, if needed.
  • We were aggressive on the base paths.
  • At least 15 FSU pitches hit the ground before home plate. Their catcher did a great job of keeping most of them in front of him
  • Play of the game for me was the double play in the seventh - strikeout and caught stealing.
  • 5 ladies from the WBB team were there supporting the baseball team (Hull x 2, Carrington, Fingall, and Wilson)

Great win! Wish I had been able to attend tonight's game. Also guessed right/got lucky that Beck would go 3 innings and Little 1.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BobK - 06-03-2019

Fantastic game. Hats off to Beck, Little, Robinson and Maverick for their great games

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-03-2019

REALLY good to see. Proving people wrong.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - StanfordMatt - 06-03-2019

I worry about Beck’s long-term health in a situation like that but if he was going to pitch at least we got the win. Time to beat some more bulldogs!
