Not trivia per se, but here's a clickbait article listing the top 40 NFL quarterbacks.  Four of the top 40 (Brodie, Title, Montana, Young) played their careers substantially with the 49ers:

Of local interest, and also mentioned were Aaron Rodgers at #6, Elway at #15, and Tom Brady as GOAT.

What struck me as truly interesting about this list was how many slightly-above-average quarterbacks who were on the list who just happened to have very long careers (Kerry Collins, Vinny Testaverde, Dave Krieg, Kenny Anderson, Warren Moon), were okay quarterbacks who had great defenses and skill players on offense (Bradshaw, Phil Simms, Troy Aikman, Bart Starr). The passing machines (Fouts, Marino, Luckman, Drew Brees), I definitely understand that. Great quarterbacks on otherwise okay teams (Elway, Jim Kelly, Tarkenton), I get that too.

Most interesting to me were the few who were exceptional virtually their entire careers (Brady, Peyton Manning, Otto Graham, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, Sammy Baugh, Norm Van Brocklin)

Greatness is not measured by a player in the 50’s versus a player in the 80’s. Greatness is being the best player of your generation.

Not sure about Bradshaw. Never thought he was a great QB. As a Raider fan, liked Stabler more.

Unitas as #14 with Russell Wilson, Phillip Rivers, Ben R, and Aaron Rodgers ahead of him. Please. All time QBs, Unitas should be in the top 5.

Bradshaw's stats are putrid, and that's with Lynn Swann and John Stallworth as receivers.

Unitas at least top eight or so.

Absolutely, 1,000% agree.  A very solid case can be made for Otto Graham as the GOAT. Graham played 10 years for the Cleveland Browns and took his team to the AAFC conference or NFL championship game every year, and the Browns won seven of those ten championships. Graham still holds the NFL career record of yards per passing attempt at 9.0, a full .6 ahead of Sid Luckman, who's at #2. By way of comparison, Luck, Plunkett, Brodie and Elway are all between 7.0 and 7.2 about 90th. Montana and Brady are at 7.5, T29th.

Not only that, the year after Graham left the Browns, they finished 4th.  I'd say Graham is either 1st or second best all time.

Elway did suffer from some not so great teams, but he was also on a couple super bowl champions. I’d say Dan Marino was the poster child for a great QB who never had the supporting cast to win it all. Even Kelly, despite never winning a Super Bowl, did make to the game four straight years. It’s not like he didn’t have Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, our very own James Lofton, and Thurmon Thomas playing with him. If only the field goal kicker had been a bit better…

True, re: Elway.  He was on winning teams 12 of 16 years in his career, two .500 teams, and only two losing teams, including his first one.  All Pro or Pro Bowl 9 of those 16 seasons.

I had a problem with the 70’s. However the Steelers won four SB’s and winning counts. You’re a stats guy Mick. I shot a lot of Bradshaw and he made a lot of plays when they counted. It’s like a .275 hitter who hit .350 in the clutch or a guy like Vic Rashi who might give up three in the first and then shut you down the rest of the way.

Gaylord Perry, Bob Lemon, Warren Spahn, Jim Palmer.

Greg Maddux has to be the guy with all the 15 plus win seasons.

Spahn May have the most 20 win seasons. 10 or 11 and he didn’t win his first game until he was 25. A very good hitter and one of the best fielding pitchers ever. Ditto Maddux.
