It's nice for stats like in this article to back up claims, but you could tell just by watching that his fastball is dominant. OK, the stats illustrate just how so compared to others, but still, sometimes you just need to watch the players play and you don't need stats.
Still, there is no better pitch in baseball than a good heater, and if Harrison's is that good, he also will avoid injury as that pitch is easiest on the arm. I'll say it again though, his fastball's ability to get swings and misses off the plate to right hand hitters is remarkable.

He’s pitched 9 2/3 innings. I’m excited about Harrison. And his fastball is electric. But let’s not get carried away…. Yet.

Baseball experts, people who have played the game have repeatedly said the fastball is the best pitch in baseball. Ability to control location is always important, but if you can get the fastball to move, and still control location it is devastating.
Harrison and Rodon don't go much above 96, MPH, but they blow guys away with it more than Camilo Doval does with 101 MPH.

Kapler stuck with him too long. But he learned what every young pitcher does - if you pipe pitches at this level, no matter how great your stuff you are going to get hit.
He lacked command in the zone tonight. Paid the price.

Doval is averaging over 12 strikeouts per 9. He doesn’t have an issue with movement. He throws both a 4 and 2 seam. Gets good sink on the two seam - at around 99. When he gets beat - it’s command.

Yeah, I wanted to see him stretched out a bit in Sac. But the Giants believe they can do that at ML level.

Come on, Farhan...or whomever. I think the announcers feel the same way I do about Meckler. This is not the place to learn how not to strike out when the G's are trying to reach the playoffs.

Been rooting for the kid big-time. But it’s getting ridiculous. In his first three at bats today he swung at one out of the first eight strikes. Finally swung with two strikes his third at bat and flew out. He simply is going to have to learn to be more aggressive at this level in part because they don’t have the Robo Umps. There is an adjustment, I think for players who are used to the Robo Umps. Because if it’s off a corner, it’s a ball.
Well, that ain’t true in the major leagues. Each ump has his own zone and you simply have to be more aggressive. Particularly if you are a rookie. He’s going to have to start swinging the bat. Or he can take the bus to Sacramento.

Giants are 1-3 since Matos optioned.
Not going to claim they would have done better in San Diego with him, because hard to believe Matos would have been the offensive difference when they score 2 runs in 3 games without him, but couldn't have been worse.
Whoever said the schedule is easier in September needs to re-evaluate.

Wacha, Snell and Lugo. Quality starters. Add Darvish. That lineup. How on earth are they 8 games under. They are the most perplexing team I think I’ve ever seen. They tied their longest win streak of the year this weekend. 3. Bob Melvin must be tearing his hair out.

I agree about the Padres, who are better than the Giants even though they somehow have a worse record.
Their last 24 games are fascinating:
Next 12: Phillies, at Astros, at Dodgers, at A's
Last 12: Rockies, Cardinals, at Giants, at White Sox
7-5 over next 12 and 10-2 over last 12, they could get the last WC spot. They are more talented than the Giants, D-Backs, Reds, and Marlins.
I'm betting the Reds eke out the 3rd WC spot. They have the easiest schedule remaining of all the teams within a game of it.

17-7 leaves them 82-80. I doubt that gets them in. People, including me, have been waiting for them to bust out. But it appears to be a lousy year. Who knows why. Sometimes it just doesn’t come together.
Behind Phillies I think it comes down to Cubs, Giants, D-backs. Reds lack pitching.

Was gonna post a video of taps, two days ago, but then the board went kaput like the Giants’ season.
I pronounced them dead on Sept. 4. They will finish under .500 and there are now legit questions about if Farhan Zaidi knows WTF he is doing.
The Giants are now 1-6 against this “softer than August” schedule.
Heard a massively disheartening interview with Susan Slusser talking about her recent sit down with Greg Johnson. I’m not hopped up enough to get into it now, but I might in a later post.
