Scott Harris, GM of the Giants and #2 in the baseball ops dept.  has taken a job with the Tigers as the President -  Baseball Ops.

Leaving the sinking ship.

Opens up the job for a known Cardboarder.

Too late!  Bobbbbk just signed a 10-yr contract to pitch BP to his grandkids.

What's the record after Farhan did nothing at the trade deadline and proclaimed "we think we have the roster to contend" in reference to Wild Card spot?  Not all records are created or have the same consequences equally.

19-24.

He didn’t do nothing. He traded Ruf for JD Davis for 2 prospects and Rosenthal - who never threw a pitch for the Giants- for a prospect.  Both nice moves.

But he certainly didn’t do enough. Getting some real value for Rodon - don’t you think the Yankees would like to have him? - was job 1.  He waited too long.  Then the option excuse came out.  That could have been worked around.

Interesting winter ahead.

Hey Q, you do know that I had someone else in mind. Bobbbbb is still hoping that the Seals return and that the Giants move to Fargo or Pahrump.

Besides the fact that the Giants have no impact position players they have to r3build the rotation. Junis has proved to be a Juggs machine, Wood is old and hurt and Cobb is just old. Webb is the ace and perhaps Cobb can be effective. Jelly is a long shot. So is Scallopini coming off the injury. Long looks at Harrison and Rodriquez in the spring.

I think he thinks he can keep Rodon.  The Giants have publicly stated they intend to be major participants in the free agent market after the season.

I did not post that. FWLIW, I don’t think they will sign Rodon.  Yankees.  Dodgers.  Mets.  Phillies.  Braves.  All more likely to be contenders.  All more likely to shell out $120 million over 5.

Yes, the Giants have publically stated that.  I’ll believe it when I see it.

They need a GM with Harris leaving.   Get someone that’s from a baseball background - scouting and/or player development and a salesperson.  They need a closer.

I don't think Doval is the guy for that job;)

RE: 2022 Giants thread - BobK - 09-20-2022

I think Doval is definitely the guy my opinion

To be clear, I am a big Doval fan. I thought poster was referring to a closer in negotiations with Harris gone.

I think you were correct Spanish. Can we just call you OST?

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Giants - 09-21-2022

Per The NY Times, Buster Posey has been named to the Giants’ Board of Directors after purchasing a small percentage of the organization.

In addition to the team, the ownership group controls 33% of the outstanding shares of CSN Bay Area and 50% of the Mission Rock development.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - BobK - 09-21-2022

Thanks for the Posey news. That’s great

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Giants - 09-21-2022

Follow up on the Posey news.  A short press conference announcing the decision was held.

Greg Johnson, Chair of the Giants BoD, said there is a commitment to be aggressive this off-season.

Specifically he was quoted as follows, “Ultimately, as we said before, we don’t have a fixed number (for payroll) yet.  It’s what we think we need to do to put a competitive team on the field.  As you know, we have a lot of flexibility coming into this off-season and we’re well aware of the (free agent) shortstops and the person who can hit in the Bronx that is out there.  Farhan ultimately will come up with his suggested number.  We haven’t done that yet, but we’re certainly looking at that right now and are well aware that we’ve got some gaps that need to be addressed.”

Yeah, I know talk is cheap.  All of us want action.  However, Johnson is now on the record as having stated that the Giants will be players this off-season.

Is it too early to roll out the red carpet and welcome Judge and Correa?   ;)

Lastly, the Board consists of a half dozen members.  It appears that Posey will be in a position to exercise some real influence….

Why is it that I’m only now seeing reporting that the Giants director of pitching, Brian Bannister, has been unable to work with players in-person because….(wait for it), he’s refused to get the COVID vacccine. So, Bannister has been available to work with players all year on zoom.  Not firing him immediately seems like an unforced error.

Insert emoji of Picard face-palming here.
