It appears that Yaz, Peterson and, yes, Longoria are also strong candidates to return.  Andrew Baggerly wrote about Longoria this morning in The Athletic.  In essence, it would cost SF a net of $8 million to bring him back.  The expectation is that he would play 3B and DH on a “Posey” schedule (roughly 2 games in the lineup followed by a day off).  In this scenario, Villar would be the alternate starter at 3B.

Cobb is $9 million next year and the club has an option for $10 million the year after that.

He did look good against the Braves, who are behind the Giants 3-2 as I write this. That was no thanks to Zack Littell who gave up three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning and then decided to give Kapler lip when the manager came out to replace him with Scott Alexander (who got the third out on a flyball with an inherited runner -- from Littell -- on third).  As the inning came to a close, Kapler was ushering Littell into the clubhouse for what I could only surmise was a thorough application of a heat-seeking baseball cleat.  BTW, Littell's ERA is 5.08.

Giants had no errors, but Estrada made a boneheaded running play trying to steal second and getting thrown out by A LOT.

14 Giants struck out tonight. In the last seven games, Giants have struck out 14, 9, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 12. The Giants have struck out the 5th most in the major leagues. They have the 19th best OPS, but have scored the 14th most runs. They're 12th in ERA, but 16th in WHIP. And they are still 29th in Total Zone Total Runs Allowed, the most complete defensive metrics. We stink in the field.

EDIT: Despite the strikeouts, Giants still won, 3-2.

Atlanta’s Michael Harris made the play of the night when, after a hit to left center, decided to go for two.  Unfortunately, for him, runner on first stopped at second forcing him to make an u-turn back to first only to be tagged out by Wade. Instead of two on, no one out, the Braves had a one out, one on situation…..

Sign Rodon to a new deal and the starting pitching will be set. Otherwise, lot of turnover in the bullpen, more contact hitters with speed (needed to play under the new rules), and  a charismatic big belter.  SF doesn’t need a tear down.  They need to focus on finding youth and speed either through free agency, trades or their minor league system.

Bart. Estrada. Flores.  Wade.  Davis, Brebbia, Doval, Longoria, Crawford, Webb, Wood, DeSclafani, Cobb, Slater, Yaz, Villar, Gonzalez, Alexander, Brinson. Rogers. 

Llovera is, I think, out for ‘23. Otherwise, I’d add him.  Rodon will test FA unless the Giants offer him about $120 million over 5.  And they won’t do that.  They have a better shot at Pederson, in part cause he’s local.  But I see him going to a contender.

Kyle Harrison gets his first AA playoff start for Richmond tonight, following series opening loss to Erie (Tigers).

Vaun Brown played in one game for Richmond after being promoted and has been on the "7-day" injury list since Aug. 26. Doesn't look like he will be returning to play this year. Casey Schmitt continues to absolutely dominate AA pitching.

Eugene is up 2-0 in best of 5 to Vancouver (Blue Jays) after Marco Luciano belted a 3-run HR to put the Ems ahead.

These teams have played each other 8 days straight, and they could end up playing as many as 11-straight games against each other if the series goes 5 games!

The Eastern League playoffs don’t begin until Monday. The Squirrels series with Erie is regular season.
