Giants pull out a 3-2 win in the oddest fashion. They were one pitch away from a nine-inning win, Texas tied it, then went ahead. Estrada gets on base, two guys make outs, Bailey hits a two-run walkoff HR over the 334 sign in LF that traveled all of 335 feet. Unbelievable. Torture v 2.0. Giants had 17 strikeouts, but 10 hits. Conforto looks like he's coming back, two hits and an HR, Estrada with three hits, Bailey with two hits. Slater struck out as PH. And FWIW, the plate ump called the largest strike zone, by far that I have ever seen. It would have made Eric Gregg blush. Logan Webb threw 8 2/3 shutout innings, Doval gave up an unearned run on a balk, and got both a win and a blown save.

Slater 7-60. He and Joc need to get going. Conforto was the best news of the weekend.
BTW. Wade Meckler 10-25 in AAA. 8 walks. .545 OBP. Everywhere he goes, he hits.

Looks like Meckler is a good fielder, too. In seven games split between LF and RF, he has 15 putouts, two assists, no errors and a double play.

The leadoff hitter of the future is now apparently. Wish he stole more bases, but my kingdom for a .300 hitter with a .400 OBP.
Love the aggressiveness with promotions and the fact they aren't standing pat with guys who are failing miserably. Hopefully Meckler SITCKS.

Bob, was mostly referring to the veterans as failures. I don't know how sending Matos down is beneficial, but he is one of the biggest culprits for soft contact. One HR and 9 XBH in 138 AB is not good enough for MLB.

Oh.
At least the Giants hit the ball hard last night. Line drive after line drive mostly caught

I'm going out on a limb and sticking with my 11-16.
First of all, welcome back.
Secondly, yeah, I didn't expect them to drop two to the As and go 2 of 8 on the not-so-tough part of their remaining schedule. They REALLY need some bats to get hot. Very few base runners = very few runs.
I was at last Friday's Rangers game (the Bochy return game) and it must be tough on the pitchers to lose games 0-2. That will gut staff morale if it keeps happening.

Nice 7-0 victory over the Rays tonight. Junis and Manaea both pitched great, as did Ty Rogers and Luke Jackson, all splitting a three-hit shutout. Giants had 9 hits, and new CF Meckler went two for four with a run scored. Conforto continues the return to greatness with a 3 for 4 night. Flores and Estrada had HRs and they had just six strikeouts, even though the strike zone was brobdingnagian (if you have a chance, check out Meckler's first strikeout...a quick 0-2 on pitches not within a zip code of the strike zone). Kapler got tossed by arguing that three pitches vs. Meckler weren't close to being strikes.

“Return to greatness”. Why do I hear John Facenda….
Nice win. Maybe bats coming alive. Estradas HR seemed to open the gates. Kudos to Kapler for having Mecklers back. I think his getting tossed fired them up a bit.
Win today they go 3-3 on a very tough homestand.

Matos is 21. Last year at this time people were questioning if he was still a top prospect. He will get stronger. Hit for more power. He was far from overmatched. Did some good things. It’s been a great year for him to build on.

He also needs to work on his fielding. He was having difficulty judging how hard balls were hit when hit directly at him.

They won, so... but, why would Estrada bat ninth in a lineup that has holes?

The Giants have the fourth best overall record in MLB against .500+ teams.

One of those good news bad news stats. The bad news being they’d be in such better shape had they played better vs teams under .500
Also, let’s see if this holds through August. Brutal stretch.

Giants now 6-11 in August. Must go 6-4 over next 10 games to exceed my 11-16 expectation this month. If ATL sweeps today, they will almost certainly end up no better than 10-17.
The Cubs will likely grab the #2 WC spot today and not look back the rest of the way. It’s gonna be a coin flip for the last WC spot between Giants, D-Backs, Reds, and Marlins, but I’d favor the 3 not named Giants at this point. I don’t see Kyle Harrison being good enough to make a difference. Hope I’m wrong.
Update: Harrison expected to make his MLB debut on Tuesday in Philly.
