Villar and Brinson are the two adds for September.
I think it is more about the fact that no one earned a promotion. I can’t think of a player in the system who warranted a jump to the bigs. It has been a rough year across the board…..

That may be the case, but bringing in somebody else's minor leaguer to promote to your team is a poor message, imho. Give somebody a shot, give somebody some experience.

Brinson? Didn’t even know Giants signed him. There are some that go all a twitter for Zaidi’s constant pulls off the waiver wire. To me the vast majority just take needed time away from prospects. He hit on Yaz. But that was off season. Wynns has been serviceable. Not sure I can think of another.
Brinson is a career .190 hitter with an OPS around .540. I’m sure he has great “plate discipline.” He is, admittedly, a good defense outfielder. But so is Bryce Johnson. They could have called him up and actually given him some AB’s. Not to mention reward him for the terrific year he’s had. A month of major league pay makes a major difference to a guy on a minor league contract.
Bullsh-t move.

Both. Union only represents MLB players. They don’t give a damn about minor leaguers. Owners certainly don’t. Most play for salaries that are not close to a living wage. It’s disgusting.
Edit: Union is working with minor leaguers to Unionize. Perhaps they do care….
Owners don’t. Essentially a wage and hour dispute. Claiming paid below minimum wage and for overtime.

Teams had not been required to pay minor-league players during spring training, extended spring training, and instructional league play.”
185 Million. Chump change to the owners. Wish it was 1.85 Billion. This is an under the radar issue that deserves to have more light shed.

Just for the record, Brinson was acquired via trade not waiver wire. Also, Yaz was acquired via a trade (for Tyler Herb) and Wynns was traded by Philadelphia to SF for Mike Plassmeyer.

I knew they got Yaz in a trade. Hadn’t seen the Brinson transaction. Still, bottom feeding. Biggest surprise to me is Bryce Johnson has a $700,000 guaranteed contract. So, at least not economic hit for him. I’d still rather see him than Brinson.

The Giants promoted OF Vaun Brown to Richmond from Eugene and replaced him by promoting OF Grant McCray from San Jose to Eugene.
Unfortunately, Brown played in just one game for Richmond before being injured. According to Milb.com site, he was on 7-day hiatus and should return shortly, including for playoffs. McCray has played 7 games for Eugene and holding his own.
The good news is Casey Schmitt is KILLING it for Richmond since being promoted from Eugene. He's now slashing .373/.420/.627 in 20 games for Richmond. He's so far performing better in AA than A. That's pretty cool to see.
Brown, Schmitt, Luciano and Harrison appear to be the top prospects who could debut for the Giants in 2023, but they won't start in S.F., so the Giants have a one year gap year to fill in 2023. It's gonna be a transition year for sure.

Lex, he would have to be put on the 40 man. That means that he would have to stay on it.
From all accounts he has a big league glove right now. He’ll be at Sacramento next year. Brinson seems like another Mike Ford or Stuart Fairchild. Makes you wonder about the Giants scouts who patrol the minor leagues.

Yes. Belt will be going on 60. So, spot open. He will still have. 3 options, I believe. That’s ‘23-25. Plenty of protection.
I have seen other organizations fast track. Giants may need to think of that in ‘23. Particularly if they sit out the upper FA market. Which given their lack of and everyday “core” players, may be the right thing to do.
I’m repeating myself, but no half measures. If they go into the FA market, go big or go home. If they are going to rebuild, then start fast tracking.

Giants are 3-10 against the Dodgers and have a three game set in LA against them starting tomorrow.

Belt to 60 day IL. Giants acquire Jose Rojas from the Angels to fill Belt’s spot on the 40 man. Rojas is hitting .125 in the bigs this year. He will play for Sacramento.
Note: The Angels also designated Steven Duggar for assignment. Duggar cleared waivers and opted to become a free agent rather than accept an assignment to the Angels minor league system.
