Re: Class of 2014 - OutsiderFan - 04-17-2013

I wonder if Simmons is also hard at work on Nick Watkins, also from Texas???

Also, Stanford just offered another Texas DB this week, Payton Hendrix, an under the radar guy who plays on the same team with Nick Watkins.  Five Texas DBs now have Stanford offers apparently:

Safeties:  Brandon Simmons, Jamal Adams, John Bonney, Payton Hendrix
CB:  Nick Watkins

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 04-19-2013

Stanford offers Oregon LB Joey Alfieri -- he's from the same high school as Owen Marecic. Consensus (on The Internetz) seems to be the only question is whether he commits soon or waits for a while.

Re: Class of 2014 - Bruce Wang - 04-20-2013

TE/DE Garrett Dickerson narrows his choices to Stanford, Michigan, Ohio St, Alabama, and Northwestern.  Listed in that order.  According to the article, his brother plays WR for Northwestern.  Sibling rivalry works in our favor here.  Who wouldn't want to go to a school that's academically better and plays football at a higher level.  That arguably works in Michigan's favor as well, but STANFORD trumps Michigan on both counts as well.

Re: Class of 2014 - socalstanfan1 - 04-20-2013

I read somewhere that we were one of the few teams to recruit Dickerson as a DE.  I wonder how that plays for us?  Obviously, as we are in his top 5, it didn't keep us out of the running.  Of course, you've gotta love the line he included about looking for an education, and planning on life after football.  Those things definitely point toward us.

That's not accurate. We're recruiting him as an OLB, but leaving the door open at TE. Northwestern is letting him choose between offense and defense. Not sure how the other schools on his list feel. I don't think it'll be a brobdingnagian issue, positions.

I've already got Alfieri in the 'S' column.  Looks like a very good prospect from his highlights.  It seems people who lamented the relatively pedestrian '13 class for its lack of star power in a Rose Bowl year are going to be quite pleased with '14.  Stanford is positioning itself for potentially quite a recruiting haul.

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 04-21-2013

Drukarev talks to Brandon Simmons's dad, who apparently is quite the mover and shaker (in the high school football recruiting world): http://stanford.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1498100

He drops weight-lifting class to take AP Bio.  Sounds like a Cardinal to me.  I would say a Stanford person should take AP Bio anyway, but I was too scared to take it in high school.  Not because it's too hard (stamp collecting compared to AP Chem or Physics).  Just too grossed out about dissecting animals.

Re: Class of 2014 - PrinceLightfoot - 04-30-2013

Is anyone else a little worried about the recent commit by this highly touted OT to Michigan who happens to be Jabril Peppers teammate in high school? Jabril grew up a Michigan fan and it was reported that his visit to the campus surpassed expectations. Maybe I need to stop reading these damn tea leaves!

Re: Class of 2014 - FarmBoy - 04-30-2013

The Michigan fan boards I saw certainly made it sound like a done deal that if his friend, and teammate, committed, then Peppers would be soon to follow. But that could just be fanboy talk. I hope Peppers is smart enough to know that what is the right fit for your pal may not be the right fit for you. Still, it would seem to put some more momentum in the UM camp.

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 04-30-2013

he's only known that kid 1-2 years so I doubt they are BFF's and he's not picking his college based on someone else. I'd be shocked if he went with Michigan before visiting Stanford.

Quote:I'd be shocked if he went with Michigan before visiting Stanford.

...but according to Michigan fans, JP's already made his choice but wants a free trip to CA, so he's just not announcing his commitment. So it doesn't mean anything that he hasn't announced already.

For the record, nothing about recruiting would shock me at this point. These are 17 year old kids, after all.

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 04-30-2013

the Michigan fans are morons, they tweet him #goblue daily.

Re: Class of 2014 - Bruce Wang - 04-30-2013

Here's an instance where having Harbaugh opine about his first hand experience with Michigan academic standards for its football team would have come in handy.

The only advantage Michigan has is that Rutgers just joined the Big Ten.

This, again, does not speak to Michigan fan's intelligence. Peppers has said he's visiting in July (which means it's on his own dime, unless we've got some friendly boosters we don't know about).

Anyway, there's too much chatter from neutral sources saying Peppers favors Michigan (perhaps even to the extent that he'll commit before taking other trips) to believe there's nothing to them. Shaw/Stanford may have ground to make up.

I think this Shaw tweet just might be directed at a particular recruit, for example:
"Their education is almost as good as Stanford's? When is almost enough for a true competitor? 3 BCS in a row, #1 education in D1 #gostanford"

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 04-30-2013

in his most recent interview that came out today he says he's moving up his stanford visit.

can you link the interview?

his USAT blog (http://socialhub.usatodayhss.com/the-buzz/item/196-breezys-world-the-jabrill-peppers-blog) seemed less definitive on the visit than previous interviews referencing a July visit.  the blog quote:  "I'm planning a visit to Stanford soon, but I'm not sure when that's gonna be just yet"

thanks.

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 04-30-2013

it is behind the paywall of the michigan scout site. He says he hasn't picked a weekend to visit but is trying to schedule it for June.

Re: Class of 2014 - socalstanfan1 - 05-01-2013

Does anyone know if Peppers has actually visited Stanford before?  Will this be his first time?Â
