RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Leftcoast - 09-24-2026

Thanks for the Haley Jones info, Mudhead.  Glad she got picked up and is contributing to a playoff contending team.

Last I heard she had been selected by Portland (from Dallas) in the expansion draft and later released.  Looks like she went back to Dallas.

Fever tied up their first round series with Vegas, 99-89. Hull as usual started, and ended up playing 24 minutes, 4 pts, 7 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl.

She started nearly every regular season game but played her fewest minutes since her rookie season and scored in double figures just 6 times, with over 100 fewer field goal attempts, including a third fewer shots from three point range. None of that is likely to change in the playoffs no matter how far the Fever advance?

Lexie was sooo good last night. Chelsea Gray had 8 points in the first quarter. They put Lexie on her and she finished with 10 for the game. Her defensive tenacity changed the game. I like what the Fever coach is doing in this series. They are playing small ball and really upping the defensive intensity with ball denial and doubling. Fun series.

Lexie’s situation has been weird since the all star break. She definitely was pushing harder on offense with some success, but minutes kept decreasing. If sitting back and trying to push both don’t work you are kinda stuck. Then the end-of-the-year rotations went weird. Maybe though the game 2 result stabilizes things for her. And maybe White gets fired and she gets a clean slate.

Iriafen had another double-double (15 pts 16 reb) but the Mystics' season ended with a loss to Atlanta.

Valks couldn't guard Ogunbowale. Game 3 at Chase Ctr/"Ballhalla" on Friday.

Heck, I don't know if anyone could have guarded Ogunbowale last night!  The three to tie the game was impressive.  The slop shot that she threw up for three in overtime was the dagger.

To BillBradley's point, Hull was very good again on defense tonight in very limited minutes in the Fever's loss to LV. The refs called 27 fouls on the Fever - incl. 4 on Hull in only 13 minutes - and just 19 fouls called on LV in what looked like an evenly matched brawl with almost as much physicality as in the NFL game tonight.

LV scored 14 more points on FTs, and won by 11. And to Hierm. point, the Fever coach had Hull and Cunningham on the bench for the 4th quarter. Strange lineup choices by the coach. Hull still had 2 fouls to give, and Gray went on to score 11 points in the 4th quarter. So the Fever are eliminated.

Let's go Valks, beat Dallas!

Tough to play defense under these conditions.

Wow - That's ridiculous!  That ref needs to be disciplined by the league.   You can see Turner use leverage on her arm in two spots to hook Lexi.

Some stats to consider for the Fever guards...Across all 3 games vs. the Aces:
- Caitlin Clark scored 60 points. She played 104 minutes. During her time on the court, the Aces outscored the Fever by 17 points.
- Kelsey Mitchell scored 61 points. She played 100 minutes. During her time on the court, the Aces outscored the Fever by 22 points.
- Sophie Cunningham scored 17 points. She played 76 minutes. During her time on the court, the Aces outscored the Fever by 39 points.
- Lexie Hull scored only 9 points. She played 57 minutes. During her time on the court, the Fever outscored the Aces by 6 points.

Hull was the Fever player that was wearing an active mic during the game for the telecast. She was quite "vocal" after the throw-down non-foul.

To my nonexpert eye, the WNBA refs are maybe the worst of all US pro leagues. They just don't see things that appear quite obvious on tv - for example, the Hull throw-down - and when the coaches invoke the replay requests, the refs then take forever to look at the video and make up their minds. The telecast cuts to commercial break and even after that, the refs are still pondering.

Truthfully WNBA officiating is so bad it makes replay pointless. They will spend 5 minutes on an obvious replay and still get it wrong. All it does is slow down the game.

And unfortunately, the Fever are very vulnerable to the officials. They aren’t that big and they need to run. A wrestling match like game 3 and they are doomed. Of course the biased officiating doesn’t help either.

Even deeper though the whole league looks incompetent much of the time. Say for example inventing a player safety lane from thin air. It will be interesting to see if a new commissioner is allowed to do better.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Hieronymus - 10-23-2026

The Finals are still ongoing but the only Stanford involvement is theoretically Prechtel; so end of season recap and regular season stats.

Nneka - 31 minutes, 17.3 pts, 9 rebounds and even 3.1 assists per game. She retires while still playing at an elite level, but was stuck on a highly disappointing Sparks team.

Cam - 19.2 minutes, 9.5 points, 5 rebounds and an amazing 1.8 blocks per game. Unfortunately, she had 2 injuries again this year - ribs and ankle. Maybe it’s time to be concerned long term about her durability? Obviously she was stuck on the same bad LA team that seemed to have no plan later in the season where they mostly kept playing the starters even when the season was lost.

Hull - disappointing season amplified by a big new contract. She tried to assert more on offense later in the season with mixed results, but it didn’t improve her minutes. She started most of the year, but she didn’t play starter minutes. 5.2 ppg and 3.0 rpg. In the playoffs she dropped to 3 ppg which just isn’t enough. The Fever just had their president “step down” and I expect that will result in Cox and White being gone as well. Maybe a new coach gets Lexie back on track. It sounds like Mitchell will leave; so there are a lot of points to replace or the Fever need to learn how to play defense.

Smith - started the year injured, got into the swing slowly and then was injured again. She didn’t play in the playoffs at all. Tough season especially considering her contract. 32 games with only 18 starts, 17.9 minutes, 6 points and 3.9 rpg. Dallas lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Jones - bounced around the league, finishing back with Dallas where she played 6 minutes in 1 game in the playoffs. Overall she only played in 10 regular season games with 3.2 points per game.

Kiki - made the FIBA World Cup team as a late addition. She was an all star again this year with 15.3 ppg and 9.6 rpg. Washington made the playoffs but were eliminated by Atlanta. They will have a lot of open cap space open and are young; so the team should be ascending still. Kelsey Mitchell in 2027?

Carrington - only played in 11 games for a very bad Chicago team with 8.8 ppg and 3.1 RPG. She had some interesting moments in her limited time on and off the court.

Samuelson - played 32 games for Portland with 4.8 ppg. Useful bench player for the Fire.

Kiana - went through 3 teams over the season, and I believe is still on the Tempo roster.

Prechtel - she was added to the Valkyries roster later in the season, but hasn’t played in the playoffs. 6 games and 1.8 ppg.

Fingall - went back to Europe mid-season. With GS, 10 games at 1.1 ppg and .5 rpg.

Add anybody I missed.

I think Brink also lowered her fouls this season, to 3.6 per game. That is still a lot considering she averaged ~ 19 minutes.

RE: Stanford WNBA 2026 - Nobadeer - 10-31-2026

Ashten Prechtel, WNBA champion!
