RE: Class of 2027+ - Hurlburt88 - 06-15-2026

FWIW, Somfai leaving seems to have struck a particular nerve.   So upbeat and with some nice skills, and then to leave rather suddenly while team is still playing.  Does anyone know if she ever even came back for spring quarter?

I believe she finished spring qtr on line.

thanks--I am glad to hear that.  and hope she did get something out of her experience, and also that we/Stanford learn from all this.   so painful . . .

Also, I was thinking about it this morning and realized that of the 7 players that transferred this season only 2 were recruited by Paye (Somfai and Amborn). Swain, Eschmeyer and Ezike stayed, along with all of her frosh commits (including Jordyn Wheeler, who has looked great playing for Canada in the U18 AmeriCup this week). The remaining transfers were 3 graduates, 1 player (Peterson) who played very limited minutes and 2x transfer Stevenson. The pure number of transfers is undoubtedly bad, but I feel like it would have been much worse if all or most of Paye's own players had left (like happened with Coach Caldwell in Tennessee).

Kate and some staff were also at the SAB (Stanford Athletic Board) Awards to support Shay. They are definitely doing the work. Good changes in my opinion.

Georgia Tech, Oregon, Alabama and Florida are the other four.
No Yukon, South Carolina, Texas, ND, USC, or UCLA there. Nice.

X post about Aila Courtenay's top 5:

I've corrected the spelling of her first and last name, as well as the list of schools (Florida is included), in the posts above.
