Like I said, a long-shot, but now they got the 6'7 player from Cal.  Scott preferred playing Raegan at the 4 and sliding her in as a 5 based on ball rotation. Definitely a 4 when Miklovic was on the court last season, but Miklovic won't be there.  We'll have to see.  

Don't know if Padilla and Stanford are talking, but I can wish.  I don't know if UCLA or 'SC has any scholarships left but their respective business schools are well-renowned and might appeal to Kayla, being a So Cal girl.  Can somebody tell me about Stanford's business school and how it ranks nationally?  It may all come down to that.

It's been #1 in the past (and very hard to get into), but the 2023 USeless NEWS ranking has us tied for third. UCLA #17, USC #19. FWIW

It doesn’t have to be business school.  Former Stanford volleyball player Madeleine Gates grad transferred from UCLA.  She had an undergrad in economics and got a masters in statistics from Stanford.

Correct.  Unless things have changed a lot, it is hard for me to imagine Stanford Business school admitting anyone who had enough time on her hands to play basketball.  They tend to enroll youngish high achievers in the business world who want to be higher achievers.  Very few admits come straight from undergrad.

Padilla's name occasionally comes up in newspaper stories along with Kaitlyn Davis (Columbia), Ania McNichols (Cornell) and McKenzie Forbes (Harvard).  They have been mentioned as potentially 'good fits', but nothing more.  Then there's Maty Wilke (Wisconsin) who lists Stanford among her top 5, but I think she will go elsewhere.

Padilla indicated early on that she wanted to play her graduate season out West, but I have not found a source that suggests anything more specific.

After evaluating the players mentioned above, Padilla is clearly better than any of them, but then again, maybe she goes elsewhere (UCLA, USC?)

I'm beginning to wonder (should Tara consider the portal), that she might she opt. for a post (i.e. a Lauren Ware/AZ) who could spell Brink and Kiki, rather than go for a guard or wing.  

Your thoughts?

Ware has three years of eligibility left since she was a medical redshirt this year due to a torn ACL, adding another post would be great, of course there is a slight issue of admissions.

As for the others listed it depends if they can really be an asset to the current roster.  It might be better to focus on providing more playing time to current players that did not see much playing time.

Gates was a brilliant student.  All A's at UCLA, fluent in several computer programming languages, graduated in three years.  It's my understanding she got admitted to Stanford grad school on her academic merits and then asked to play on the WVB team.  Stanford was Gates' dream school but she was not offered an athletic scholarship coming out of high school. She had plans of going to Stanford grad school and applied well in advance of the application deadline.

I would put Gates in somewhat of a unicorn category.  IMO Stanford is not going to get any WBB transfers for fall 2023, particularly if they have not already made plans and applied some time ago.

Maybe someone over at the Stanford rivals site should actively start exploring if/which transfers we are in contact with, if any. Since they are paid to dig and found out inside info (supposedly), maybe they should start with something we all are curious about aka the portal, potential transfers etc... just a thought….

Yes I’ve read. The chronicle is not insider information and all the Tara quotes in that article were from before the season and last year. A lot of speculation about nothing.

Regarding the obvious need to fill some critical gaps with the departures of Betts, Emma Nnopu, and Nivar, there is another option (I don't think we've discussed that much, if not at all), that Tara might be exploring.

What about recruiting a couple of HS players coming from outside the U.S.?  Perhaps some diamonds in the rough?  It might be a bit late to recruit the top players in Canada, Australia, and countries in Europe who have made commitments, but perhaps there are others still available who can provide help.

We need a good shooting guard who can create and we need a 6'4 - 6'5 player who can back up Kiki and Cam.  Compared to others teams who have a pipeline to a particular country (think teams like South Florida), I doubt Stanford has a lot of resources to find such players, but if getting talent from the portal is not realistic, I have to believe Tara and staff are looking overseas to help alleviate the departures and give Stanford a fighting chance to compete in 2023-2024 at a high level.

Thoughts?

This past season we had 3 players from out of the USA The year before also 3. Yes Tara and the staff is aware yes they have pipelines.

Bob K and I finally agree on something!  Get out the trumpets.  Perhaps overseas is where some reinforcements might be on Tara's and her staff's radar.  One can hope.

There are a number of recruiting agencies for WBB (and WVB) that help bring international high school players to US colleges among other services.  One of them is called Nomos with Kristin Folkl as a top executive and I believe part owner.  If any foreign player was in the pipeline for Stanford fall 2023 it would have been public by now.  Maybe something will happen for 2024.

For what it's worth, and probably not much, Charlie Creme now has his first 2023-24 Bracketology projection.  He has Utah as a #1 and the aq from the Pac 12, UCLA a #2 seed. Stanford is now a #4, going to an Albany NY regional.

The current roster (with no transfers or additional freshmen coming in) does not bode well for the Cardinal, unless there is significant development from Lepolo, Harriel, Bosgana, Demetre & Iriafen.  Even with that, there will be no reinforcements at the post.  Does Tara plan on playing Brink 35+ minutes a game even if she commits fewer fouls? I don't think so.  Same with Kiki.  Stanford will be vulnerable when those two are on the bench; especially against teams with good size in the post.

I think Stanford's #4 seeding is in fact a bit generous.
