DB Tom Zbikowski played at South Bend College and for the Ravens and Colts. 4-0 with 3 KO's as a pro boxer, now a working firefighter.
First Voldemort winner Jay Berwanger gave future president Gerald Ford a cut and subsequent scar under his eye.
Tom Candiotti, of knuckler fame, is also a pro bowler.
Sammy Baugh played in the Cardinal organization and is in the Pro and College Football Halls.
Don Lund played for four MLB teams, played hoops at Michigan and was the first round pick in 1945 of the Chicago Bears.

He was 6-0, with five knockouts, fighting exclusively tomato cans. One of his opponents was 0-0-0 when he fought Ed, one other had no wins, one was 1-14, one had two wins and his first opponent was 5-6. That guy was 20 years old, gave Ed a very hard time, bout went full six rounds. Ed said later he expected a much easier fight.
His third fight was the only fight against a fighter with a winning record. Fernando Montes was 18-12-1 when Ed knocked him out in the first round.

Given 40 years since the catch and the Niners-Cowboys Sunday, I harken back to TooTall and Montana. Don’t know if the story is real or apocryphal. But Jones had commented before that game that he really didn’t respect the 49ers. In fact the Cowboys had said that when the Niners crushed them earlier in the year it wasn’t the “real“ Cowboys. Which led Walsh to say something along the lines of – what do they have two teams; one they bring when they win and one they bring that loses . The arrogance of the Cowboys was overwhelming.
So back to “The Catch.” Jones was pursuing Montana and they ended up on the ground as Clark was making his iconic catch. Montana supposedly said to Jones - “respect that motherf——-r.” Don’t know if it’s true. But like it, anyway. Joe Cool was one big time competitor. Of course if Eric Wright doesn’t make that tackle on Drew Pearson it would have been a different outcome. People tend to forget that.

Absolutely, it's the forgotten game saving play. Of course today it would have been a fifteen yard penalty for being a horse collar tackle and Dallas would have been in field goal range.

It was a great game. Interesting that Too Tall would make that comment, they lost 45-14 earlier in the season, the Niners outgaining Dallas 440 yards to 12. Montana's rating was 119.8 that game, Danny White's was 19.8.
Dallas was favored by three. It was an ugly game. Montana would throw three interceptions (two to Everson Walls, who led the NFL with 11 INTs), and the Niners fumbled three times (losing all three). Dallas had four fumbles (two by Danny White) and an INT of their own. Niners outgained Dallas 393 to 250, but were penalized 7 times for 106 yards to Dallas' 5 penalties for 39 yards.
Niners needed just six plays for a TD on the opening drive. Dwight Clark had 120 yards receiving, Freddie Solomon had 75. Niners outgained the Cowboys and Tony Dorsett on the ground, 127 yards to 115. Lott had an interception called back for PI. Niner DL was unsung heroes, sacking White four times with 24 attempts. Montana was sacked 3 times with 35 attempts.
A lot of no-names did well. Lenvil Elliott (10/48 rushing), Earl Cooper (8/35), Bill Ring (6/27), TE Charlie Young (4 recpts. 45 yards).

Mark Harris was a professor of English at San Francisco State College when he wrote the first three Henry Wiggen novels.
